  1. The points would

    Be

1, £300 a year better off due to not having to join a certification scheme

as well as not having all the paperwork created by any scheme

2, all those suppliers supplying substandard firewood to sell would be delt with directly by trading standards and delt with according.

3, all those doing job correctly would have increased sales and with luck higher margins

What if the producer netted up kiln dried at sub 20% and dispatched it only for it t take up moisture at the garden center/garage for court or whatever  ?

    That's quite true Stubby,

But that would be the same even if it was carrying a certification number,

It does mentioned on the defra consultation paper if it should be the retailers responsibility to ensure that they are kept in the proper conditions

  3. Instead of paper chase certification scheme which I personally hate.

Why not make it compulsory that all netted firewood has to show a address of manufacture,

Then any substandard firewood could be traced by trading standards directly back to the producer,

Another benefit would for the producer would be marketing there own brand .

    Just a thought ?

  4. In reply to your question "is this the end"

I would definitely say it's the beginning of it.

Timber prices have gone from £20 per ton delivered, to £60 this week (softwood) when you can get it, while

The cost of firewood is basically unchanged,

I reckon if the current trend, be it stoves ,biomass etc, continues at its current pace, the whole thing will implode within the next five years

As for cutting straight, as well as even teeth, the bar dressing tools are awesome, having level guidebar rails will make cutting much more accurate, especially on 30inch and longer

This is the other one he’s selling

Yeah he's a trials bike to sell as well

I think he will be genuine, maybe just having one of those weeks,

If he's bu****ring you about, buy the one he has listed now tell eBay you've paid private and then open a case against him, that will get his attention

It’s the total lack of communication that is worrying me. Phoned him and few times through the week and nothing. Txt him last night and no reply. Quick enough to send his invoice over when I txt him my email address. Something just doesn’t feel right about it!

When you first made contact was it through eBay messages or from a mobile phone number on the listing

I'm looking for a kindling making machine like the old Espo dual blade cutter.  I've got an old Land Rover with a rear drum PTO, having this power the kinding machine via a belt would be a great show piece.  I've been doing some reading and googling for said machine, it sounds like they're a rare beast to find, does anyone have one for sale?  Are their similar alternatives I could look for?  Many thanks.  Chris

On a related note, a primary school friend used to help his father  after school cutting kindling from orange crates, by hand, they had a small lever device which the stiks were laid in and then compressed so they could be banded with string or wire at both ends and sold as pimps. His sister burned the device when she moved into the family home but I recovered the metalwork from the ashes and I think he still has it.

    That's a stick bundler

One on eBay a week or to ago

There's a foot operated one as well

  11. I understand exactly where your coming from, I installed a container type dryer 4yrs ago when I reached a certain production point but that was linked to RHi, which makes a difference

If your minds made up about the kiln route then there's plenty members on here who will give you advice
