  3. Hi I've got around 35 loads roughly 1.25m3 of seasoned hard wood 90% ash need to get rid as I'm moving. Been selling for £110 a load of past three years no trouble so looking for £3000 Thanks
  4. Hi chaps,I've got a private job to do that involves clearing lots of wind damaged willows. They are big and loverly and straight, think they where originally planted for cricket bats. I've told the customer that I won't take the wood as it's no good to me as firewood,BUT as it's so straight It seems such a shame. Can you burn willow if it's really dry? How long does it take to get dry? Any opinions on this? Thanks lance
  5. My stihl ms 260 is being a right arse to start when cold at the mo, it's really hard to pull over (catching) then It spits fuel out of the exhaust and it's fine and continues to be until fully colds again? Any ideas?
  6. Thanks for that,I'm in the east tho lol At the end of the day I'm happy with the price and so are the customers so happy days I suppose
  7. I charge £110 now for 1.4m3 of hard wood all ash, sycamore and oak. Am I too cheap??
  8. I'm just wondering what the top prices per hopis foot I should be getting for my timber. I've got grade A and B ash and grade A oak? Many thanks
  9. Many thanks mate
  10. Hi there my trucks buck Length 87 inches Width 63 inches Height 15 inches Could someone please tell me what cube my buck will hold. Many thanks
  11. Seriously feel your pain there! Why the hell don't they just buy in direct from you in m3? Could be worth finding where they live and popping round to explain? Extra business ;-)
  12. After a good splitting axe? What do people suggest?
  13. I had these made for me a month ago by a top furniture maker in my area but due to a unexpected move I've got to sell. It's a solid character elm top with a solid oak base...coffee table and dinning table that seats 6-8???
  14. I've been told this before Steve,it's a good idea I know it's only a fiver but a hundred quid sounds slot more than nighty five. Reduce the load size it will be
  15. I'm lucky enough to source my wood for free so in on a nice little number. I'll be honest this is my first proper year and I've sold out at 100 loads! Never expected it to be so good first year, will try to double at least next year. Might go up to £100 a load and see what happens
  16. Hmmm that's interesting! Might have to go up a bit. Trouble is people just want to know how much a load is not how big a load is. Two other local lads sell £65 and £80 a load but I'm still selling loads and taking there customers so maybe I should test the water with an increase
  17. I supply all hard wood, have the odd awkward Customer that wants soft wood but very very few....sell 1.25m3 for £95 haven't had a single complaint about money or quality am I to cheap?
  18. 260 all the way
  19. Sorry to drop in on thread.....do you mind me asking what the moisture content is after three months on beech?
  20. Well my plan is to have areas in the woods that I'll cut split and store the logs on pallets under tilts, this will save on paying for storage. Will check with forestry before I go ahead on amounts extracted.
  21. Not sure on acres, forestry have been out and instructed on do's and do nots. Known the farmer a long time so have a good relationship. Most the wood is ash and sycamore with a hand full of wind blown oaks other than that the oaks are in good nick.
  22. Do all cutting in the woodland. There is unreal amounts of wind blow...huge ash trees. Thinning/felling licenses are going through,so yes standing timber will be cut. Dad is 53 so got a few years left lol. Yes will be re planting. Got good access to all woods. Feel like I need reassuring it can work? It's a big step.
  23. No don't have to pay for timber.
  24. Quantity isn't a problem as it's there in several big woods. Well say minimum first year a hundred loads and my loads exactly are 1.25m3 I suppose they must be getting on for a tone obviously depending on variety of wood.... Agree?
  25. Right chaps last year I took on some woodland management part time to make a bit of money on the side through fire wood and timber in the round to a local furniture maker,I've done it a full year now and have done pretty well considering I started from scratch. Ive sold around 90 loads so far at a cube a load and I'm still going..... The farmer has offered me all the woodlands to manage full time and I'm thinking of going in with my dad,the advice I need is weather people think that it could be something We could both make a living out of full time. Open question I know but any advice or help would be appreciated. There isn't anyone local that sells decent fire wood, I did no advertising at all this year it was all word of mouth! The woods have huge amounts of timber as they haven't been managed for around 30-40 years but my machinery is limited to a tractor and splitter a few saws and a low loader for when I need to shift timber for furniture. Anyone's thoughts are appreciated!
