  1. Hey guys, Looking for a set of non PPE trousers for climbing in and just general light work. I'm torn between the Arborwear Ascender's and the Pfanner Stretch-Zones. Problem is I can't find the Stretch-Zones in the UK. Anyone know of a dealer that does them ?
  2. Don't do it. I bought one, broke after a couple of uses. Constantly keeps cutting out and the chain tensioner just doesn't work. Best off getting a second hand saw off eBay.
  3. Reg, that Is just some amazing work. I can only hope that one day i know as much as you. Please can we get one of your top videos to accompany this ?!
  4. I have Cooper Discoverer STT's and I am more than happy with their performance. However it does say they are a 80/20% off/on road tire, but I've had no problems being mainly on road. They are a little noisy but when you get out on the lanes you know where the money went.
  5. Do you split logs to the size you want while they are still green, or do you split them after they have been seasoned ? Cheers, Al.
  6. Steve, William, Thanks for the advice. I would just cut the roof down but right where the cut would be is a window/sky light type thing. Might get tricky. I don't have a bulk head so I'm already having to get something pre fabed to sort that out. You won't see it anyway as its going to have board up against it which will be the chip box. Anyway, will do some digging with those links you have me. Cheers.
  7. This is some proper serious Land Rover porn. Is it bad I get seriously excited about this stuff....?
  8. Does anyone have/know where I can get a double cab pick up roof from for a 110 ? Rare as the proverbial rocking horse **** it seems.
  9. Yeah ! If I had my way I would have about 5 of them, one for every occasion. The Mrs said no though, not sure why.
  10. Cheers for the advice guys. Spoke with the guys at Exmod and they reckon it wouldn't be worth it because of of the chassis weight allowance. Plus the 110 is worth more as a SW. They said trade it in and go for a 130. I don't want to get rid of her though. I think I might just go for the double cab pick up option minus the tipper. Like you guys said its an easy bolt off, bolt on change.
  11. It's a 300TDI....not that it should matter !
  12. I've got a 1996 110 Station Wagon. I'm thinking of getting it converted into either a double cab tipper or a truck cab tipper. Has anyone done this who can offer some advice ? Also what's your opinion on doing this ? Is it a waste of a good station wagon, is a 110 just that bit too small and so would be worth trading in for a 130 tipper ? Cheers, Al.
  13. I feel your pain bro. I've just gone out alone and had to get everything, and I mean everything from scratch. Good luck in Oz !
  14. Wow, there's a fair few in the Tricholoma genus. I would just leave them to grow out, but I have a young Patterdale Terrier who eats anything, so I removed it to be on the safe side.
  15. I've come across a bit of a grey spot, wondering if anyone has been in this situation before. Officially im still employed by the MoD for another two months, however im no longer obliged to actually be at work. As far as they are concerned I am now on leave for the purpose of re-training and re-settlement. During this time I can work for others as long as im not paid, which I plan on doing, along with my training at TKF. The problem is I cant start a life/accident/income policy for being an arborist as one of the questions on the check list is 'are you in the military', which of course technically I still am. However I don't think my current policy would cover me for working as an arborist, or doing anything outside the military for example, as its a policy for serving military personnel. Basically its just a giant cluster ****. I've got some insurance companies looking into it for me, but any advice would be appreciated.
  16. It looks like gills to me. Cheers. .
  17. Found this growing in my garden this morning. I'm no expert on wild mushrooms but I didn't think they were about at this time of year ? Only thing I can think of is I've just put down some mulch on my borders and possibly the spores were somehow preserved in that Anyone ID this ? I'm thinking its probably a young Cep ?
  18. Straying a little off topic here, but does that meen that the advice given to 'not prune oak during April, May and June' can be disregarded in the UK ?
  19. I see, ive just done some research into the beetle too, and it seems that it targets trees regardless of health, so everyone is at risk I suppose.
  20. Cheers for the help David. Ive got a starting point for a little research now. Is it thought that the aformentioned disease is spread in the same way as Oak Wilt ? That the bettles are attracted to sap from fresh wounds and if they are carrying spores of the fungus then the tree will most likely be infected, or are we talking a whole different beast here !?
  21. Thanks for the reply. Well that's good to hear for now I suppose. So does the UK have any oak related diseases that are spread by beetles ?
  22. Hi all, Please excuse my ignorance, but ive always been told told there is no such thing as a stupid question....well probably until now that was true ! Does 'Oak Wilt' (Ceratocystis fagacearum) exist in the UK, or is it just our cousins across the pond who suffer from this ? Thanks in advance.
  23. Brilliant guys, thanks for the help. That little lot should keep me busy for a while !
  24. Hi, I am new to the forum, been lurking for a while but thought I should best introduce myself. I am in the process of re-training to become a qualified arborist. Im looking for some advice on any books/publications that would help with my training/learning, and also anything that will be of use as a reference guide once actually out in the field. I already have 'The Tree Climbers Companion' and a smaller, more concise version of BS3998. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Regards, Al
