  1. I nearly bought one, after evaluating many different entry-level mills. Very well made and more refined than most If you look on their website and order there, the vat is calculated at 20%. I couldn't get any kind of deal whatsoever, which I thought was dissapointing, and eventually bought a different mill elsewhere. Good mill, though.
  2. Years ago I worked in a boatyard building wooden fishing boats and all the deck sweepings were saved each day for our smokehouse. There was oak, iroko etc and it all went into a bin to smoke our haddock. There was all sorts of (wood) rubbish in there too and it never did any harm at all, probably even enhanced the flavour. The owner even had a wet fish shop in town and sold the smokies there.
  3. Hi Andy, I also did a lot of research before buying a mill and did a comparison between the following:- Hudson 218 Kellfri Woodland HM126 Holzman BBS550 Dack SM800 Lumag BSW66GL Trakmet TTP660 All these are entry-level machines and generally in the price range of £2500 to £4000. Personally, I would buy the Woodland Mills, followed by the Trakmet if you can get a deal on it straight from Poland. I'm an engineer and looked at most of these and have to say that the Woodland was better built and a bit more sophisticated in things like band tensioning, cam locks for sawhead height etc. It was just better built overall and very well priced at £2600 + vat. Just my personal opinion, of course.
  4. Has to be the Oxdale for me, see here SE400 Petrol Engine Log Splitter | Oxdale Products I have the tractor-mounted variant that runs from the tractor hydraulics, so it's very good value at around £500. The petrol-powered one should still be within your price range. 10 ton force, so it's plenty strong enough for most rings you might come across. I can't recommend them highly enough. I have had mine for six years and I split about 10-15 tons a year for my own use, and it hasn't missed a beat at all. It is still like new and operates perfectly. They give a three-year warranty and even give a one-year return and refund if you're not completely happy with the machine. I spoke to them three or four years ago and they hadn't had any returns.
  5. It was my mill. The buyer was located in Worcester and thought it was a bit too far to come in the snow to collect it. Another time-waster. I think you'll find that the new owner (well known on here) is very happy with it.
