  1. Were will i find a quality pair of chainsaw boots in uk size 14. my ancient stihl wellies size 12 are knackered and split ( probably me stuffing enourmous feet in them ) . are these leather boots fairly waterproof ? Need to get something decent for upcoming course and cannot face a whole week feeling like a chinese kid whose feet have been bandaged up ! any sites, links or even reviews would be great. muchos Tommywommy
  2. As per title really, what to expect on upcoming course, doing both in the same week. I am a typical farm boy just wanting to get certs to please NFU. lots of logging and dropping fair sized trees with lots of room around them. would never consider climbing ( there aint rope strong enough ). is it alot of theory? got the requisite pile of new shiny PPE. anything else required ? really annoyed as the training cannot be counted towards my cpc training points for HGV:thumbdown:
  3. I am not in any way encouraging this but know certain wood men who get thieving from piles of cord near roads and laybys. Inch hole drilled in timber and what ever projectile of your choice glued in with woodchippings and silicone/ superglue. By projectile i mean 3x .22 rimfire / CO2 cartridge from paslode nail gun even know one bloke who riddled the last bit of timber left after a biggish theft with .243 pointing outwards. in my opion a nutter and should not have section one but it would put you off of nicking firewood if that was your game, problem is might get flogged onto innocent lady possibly as above !
  4. If you have access to a loader just move weekly from one corner of shed to another, i know its a ball ache but think of it as windrowing like compost production, alternatively we have used for grain a mesh half tube ( imagine upside down V ) with lots of 4 mm holes, hessian over sections and suck air out not blow in, would at least increase air flow through pile, Reduce the likelyhood of mouldy logs and would no be permenant on the floor of your shed ( Drying floors are great til they start collapsing or get a hard driver on them ! ) Tommywommy:tee:
  5. Box deposit would have to be near what i get them for £ 25-40 ( I collect and repair ) I find them very useful around the farm, Nearly as useful as bale string and zip ties ! i can get a spud box off of my ifor williams p7e trailer no worries then pump truck box anywere with smooth surface hardstanding ( Most domestic houses have decent drives, Just us farmers that live in crap holes. Have alot of ash but cant drop all at once or Father in law would kick off. Got some big poplar trees to come down this year as well. ash grows like weeds round here. I do like the net idea but getting the girls in the shop to keep a record would be hellish, also big family helping themself would get my goat. £ 100 for spud box is what i was thinking inc reasonable delivery on the large scale side of things.
  6. Hello ! Just thinking about processing and selling firewood to customers that come through our farm shop. Would it season well processed green and stored in potato boxes with tops covered ( These are the vented type with gaps between boards on sides) Bit of ply or stockboard ( Recycled black plastic sheeting 6mm thick ). Also what should i be charging for a spud box containing 1.7 cubic metre of hardwood all split and delivered ( possibly in box for deposit ! ) Just trying to finance a return to education. PS I am in North bedfordshire and do not think i would struggle to sell 20/30 boxes next winter, ( constantly being bothered in shop for Firewood ). Any thought or opinons greatly appreciated. Regards Tommywommy:001_smile:
  7. British farming forum is what led me here ! Its now posting a message saying to change any passwords that are the same, well thats an absolute pain cos have so many now ! As they always said on BFF be careful what you post, locations , equipment and confidential details, mods on there have even deleted posts due to too much info ! Cyber surf safe kids:thumbup:
