  1. Hi all I have a question that might be quite basic, but I really have no idea. I've got a loler inspection coming up soon and rather than buying official CE marked eye2eye friction cord (to expensive!) I've just been buying mine in by the metre and tying my own fishermans knot on each end, as I have seen many other climbers do. My question is would this pass a loler inspection? Many thanks
  2. You're welcome man Keep up the good work! Hope you don't mind me asking but how did your project come about?
  3. That sounds awesome man, yeah I'll let you know! Don't need a travel buddy do you haha?
  4. Hello all! I am feeling inspired! I have recently read an interview with Waldo Etherington in issue 4 of Arb Climber magazine in which he talks about travelling all over the world rigging camera work for the likes of David Attenborough, and I cannot stop thinking about what a wonderful job it must be. I have just received issue 5 of Arb Climber in which James Aldred visits Tom Greenwood and Brett Mifsud who climb and measure some of Australia's biggest trees, and on top of this I am also a massive fan of Drew Bristow and David Wiles's project 'Explore the Ancient Trees of Africa (if any of you guys are reading this then hi!) All these projects unite my two biggest passions in life; trees and travelling. In my mind these guys have undeniably the best jobs in the world and I am dying to find out how to enter this area of the industry. However, I am struggling to find information and if anyone has any experience or advice I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. I have visited Canopy Access Ltd's website, and have seen that they offer two courses, BCAP and ACAP (Basic Canopy Access and Advanced Canopy Access respectively) Has anyone on here had any experience with them? Thanks in advance
  5. Once again thank you everyone for all the feedback. It's really nice to have my decision reaffirmed by fellow professionals, and hearing your views has given me a lot of confidence in my own instincts
  6. After photo is from a slightly different position. Had to get the best angle on it
  7. Sap did bleed a bit if I'm honest. Had it been my own job I probably would have left it till later in the year, but it wasn't my call unfortunately.
  8. No MEWP, but the job was finished live by another climber today. Each to their own I suppose, but I stick by my original decision. I just think it isn't worth the risk when for a little bit of organisation you can get the line shutdown/earthed for free...
  9. Thanks for such a "constructive" comment. I think if you actually read back through the thread you'll see that I never expressed any doubt about it being a power line. However here are some new photos to act as proof...
  10. The lower conductor is insulated, but the upper one is not.
  11. Thanks for the feedback! In response to the "They look like phone lines" comments I will try and snap some more photos tomorrow, although I am 100% certain they are power. In the mean time though can we just assume that they are what I've said they are
  12. It's a low voltage line. Definitely not BT.
  13. Hi guys Was asked by my employer (who shall remain anonymous) to reduce this birch by 20%. I reduced most of the tallest stem as can be seen in the second photograph, but refused to do the other side due to its close proximity to the LV line. Do you think this decision was justified? I appreciate the lines are hard to make out in the photographs. Thanks
  14. Hi all! Not technically my first reduction, but my first reduction with minimal guidance from anyone on the ground. Spec was for 20%. Pretty happy with it, let me know your thoughts Before: After
  15. Been thinking about getting a scaffold/industrial piecing for a while now, but concerned over how easily it might get infected doing arb work, e.g get caught on trees, irritated by ear defenders etc. Any piercing fans out there who have had good/bad luck with this?
  16. Title says it all really! Be nice to get out on the weekends occasionally to do a bit of climbing
  17. Thanks a lot Dan, SRT version it is!
  18. Hi guys Am sure this question has probably been asked before, but couldn't seem to find a thread which properly answered my question! Basically I am looking to buy a new harness, mainly for rec climbing on the weekends and have been looking at the Petzl Sequoia (have also been looking at the Tree Motion but not sure I can justify the price for weekend rec climbing!) Anyway although I am currently climbing DdRT I am keen to explore SRT in the near future and was wondering whether it would be worth buying the Petzl Sequoia SRT version? Will this work ok with DdRT as well? The only difference I can see from the standard Sequoia is that the SRT version has attachment points for a chest harness, but is there more to it than this? Any advice appreciated Tom
  19. So as the harness has been out for a little while now, I was wondering what people's opinions are? How does it compare to the standard Tree Motion harness?
  20. Anyone know where you can buy a copy of 'The Principles of Tree Hazard Assessment and Management'? Cheapest one on Amazon is £119! Can't be right surely?!
  21. Yeah it looks good. Was thinking of upgrading to a treemotion in the next few months, but if this lighter version comes out soon for a broadly similar price I'll kick myself! Think I'll hang on for a bit!
