  1. The picture would be much appreciated! I think I'm going to chisel the whole inside out because I enjoy it lol Just depends on how big the box is I guess. I want it fairly large I guess. I might make it out of ailanthus because I like the grain alot. Just have to check the moisture to check its dry!
  2. Oh I didn't know it had any use. We have lots of dry stuff all shapes and sizes. Pictures to follow this evening
  3. According to old Chinese herbal treatments ailanthus (tree of heaven) can cure baldness. But is it good for anything else? Discuss
  4. Lovely advice much appreciated Think we have some nice sycamore around. Can anyone tell me if ailanthus is good for anything?
  5. Thanks for the advice mate. I have bits big enough I was thinking about even making a chest out of some really dry wood. What wood would be best?
  6. Hey Thinking of starting a new project while something else I'm doing is drying out. The other half has a lot of watches ring etc so I'm going to make a box to put them in. Probably only made out of lime or something. I'm going to chainsaw a cube out of the wood and use my little pocket planner (which I love) to create the desired effect. Then cut off the lid and then chisel out the middle to create the box. I want the box to look rough, not badly made but like its been done with a draw knife is anyone knows the effect I mean? Any tips before I start my project? Thanks
  7. Yeah real story there, unfortunately he only started his business this year, work was just picking up and boom, gone.
  8. This is actually a friend of myn, he was up a 80ft oak finishing a reduction when his rope became tangled on a branch. He sent his apprentice lad to go get his climbing kit to climb up and release his rope. The boy runs back and says "The fu***ng vans gone!"
  9. Already seasoned wood?
  10. Brilliant thanks mate
  11. Hey I have some cut wood that I'm going to make into chopping boards and some disks for coasters. I have a belt sander that I've been using to sand some bigger wood but how do I sand smaller pieces without them flying all over the shop? Without a vice.
  12. So much more to wood work than I thought
  13. Good idea maybe I will do that lol I was under the impression that a butchers block was a solid block of wood
  14. Brilliant, very helpful thank you. I have some very nice seasoned ash in the yard, what do you think on a butchers block?
  15. hello mate nice to meet you! I will buy a bar and chain as well as the mill if I do get one I think so you suggest a 30" one. I will probably not buy a grinder straight away and use my extreme sharpening eye
  16. £40 in October. Sold if I can
  17. Some nice serving boards I think
  18. Thanks Simon appreciate the advice I'm going to be casual doing it so slow progress is no problem how do you keep your chain sharp?
  19. Maybe one Friday we can sort out half a day and you can plank up to your hearts content and so can I free wood is always great right?
  20. Awesome thanks guys
  21. Hey Rob, Been told your the man to talk to in regards to milling. Looking to buy one of your 24" Alaskan mills I have several 064s I can use to power it and I have bars but I would need a ripping chain. How much am I looking at? I don't want to spend fortunes (other half might kill me)
  22. Will probably just buy the ripping chain as it will probably be easier! I do have four 064s now so I could also do that! Well I live in Brentwood, but the yard is in Greenwich, south london. LONG story but I would obviously be willing to give you wood for a go but greenwich is about 40 minutes away!
  23. Very very skilled mate, beautiful box there
  24. The 24" Alaskan mill looks good but it's absolutely vital I buy the bar and chain aswell?
  25. What do you plan on doing to those disks?? I would love to make a butchers block with some ash
