  1. I could do both I guess just if I was doing private I would ring everything and split it as quick as possible of course but wholesale I wouldn't need to do that I guess so just a matter of how much wood I get I suppose
  2. Had lots of help with my other question I posted yesterday so just wanted to ask a quick one. As I said in my last post have the access to a full big yard with inside storage that I'm building. And access to lots of hard an soft woods in about 200 miles of woodland (fallen and dangerous trees) Should I go private and stack and split and make some form of drive in centre where people can pull in load up and go and do deliveries to pubs and the local stove supplier. Or stock up over the year and sell big loads as whole sale to the lovely arb talk community. I no there's more money in private but there's more hassle and I do have a job I don't really want to quit. If I go commercial I could collect the wood over the year and then come end of summer sell in 26t 7.5t and 3.5t loads to the trade. If I did this do you ring it up? Or leave it long? Does it matter? What kind of transport companies out there (Essex) do timber haulage? Confused.com Thanks
  3. Ah fantastic that sounds great, ill PM you my details tomorrow because that would be handy but won't be open for business untill next season most likely although I do a bit now. Yeah could be a little niche there selling 7.5t loads of even 3.5t loads. Yes we'll this is the plan, and we have a road going in a loop from the outside road through the middle of the yard past the log pile and right outside again so it's perfect for a self serve centre! Let the good times roll hopefully
  4. Thanks chris, great advice. As I said I think in January I'm going to start processing wood build a little empire and start a cash and carry firewood yard for the public and also try and get involved with brentwood burners of course. That's a great idea. Plus my grandad used to supply them there wood I was thinking about arctic loads for less hassle. 26 tons of hardwood will be easy but then all of the hassle with the trucks and loading etc. I should be deliving the wood aswell of course but I don't have a truck yet Do you sell logs in Essex chris? Cheers
  5. Thinking from January going to go into the forest and just start processing anything I can. Stack it up and get on splitting it in summer ready for the winter. Thinking of a self service drive in log yard with split logs and kindling.
  6. How much do you think an artic load of split logs would sell for?
  7. Yes, then I can be big, happy and jolly. What more do you want?
  8. Cheers mate appreciate the advice.
  9. Think your right as I have dabbled in it before just didnt know how to get my log nets into shops or petrol stations! Going to Do it the old fashion way and ask!
  10. Yeah defiantly was just going to sell to private with a little website but wasn't sure if there was a bigger opportunity available somewhere. Thinking of having the yard a self service centre for people if they want firewood or kindling.
  11. Hello mate were in ongar just outside Brentwood.
  12. Hello, Recently have been granted full access to a large yard in Essex. I have lots of access to wood since I am a tree surgeon. Plus the farm that the yard is in is massive with lots of woodland and I'm very friendly with the farmer and he will let me clear fallen and dangerous trees in exchange for doing some work for him. So the question I am asking is what do you think I should do? I have a 8ton log splitter already so I want to do logs but should I just sell to the public or should I buy wood in and make kindling and bulk sell or make sacks of logs and kindling and sell to shops an petrol stations and other wood sellers? I just don't know what to do really. I have a full time job but have lots of time and of course am passionate about this so will put everything into it. Looking forward to your responses.
