  1. I think that's called lions tail, have seen it warned against. Chance of sun scald on newly exposed bark, ends of branches will sprout more.

    Customer always right, discuss...
I quite like it but it's so easy to over do and 'lions tail' it I.e. like above pic
  2. Hi folks. In a similar position as my I’m looking to update my 02 L200.
It’s been great with a decent chip box but, as above, probably only carries 1.5m3. It’s a double cab and I’ve taken out the rear seats so it’s good storage. My question is do I go for another double cab Izuzu or Toyota and have a tall chip box made to increase capacity. Or get an extended cab but limit storage…or get a toolbox fitted into the tipper and loose chip capacity? It’s all one big compromise! I so want a small 4x4 for various reasons but what to go for to get the best of all worlds?? Perhaps I’m looking for something that ain’t possible!? [emoji57]
I want same. I think the cab and a half size would be best. You get in cab storage and the back is not alot shorter than a single cab.

  3. My clients 'Xmas tree' weighed 2.2t
Our local tip has a new weighbridge and I thought I'd make use of it out of curiousity.
I tipped first thing then returned for the rest of the wood later this morning.
Only the second time I've ever weighed an entire tree, chip, wood and rakings.
I was so thrilled that I posted this to 'The Dull Club' on FB

Crikey, I would never have thought that was as much as 2.2 tons.
  4. What time of year did the trees turn brown? How much of the trees turned brown/how far up and was it just on one side - was it actually the whole tree? Any other trees in the area affected? If winter and near a main road possibly salt spray damage but would be mainly on the roadside of tree, if springtime possibly frost damage, if summertime there are arable fields nearby could be herbicide drift damage. Have worked in that area in the past and a number of hedgerows planted got badly damage on more than one occasion by drift of herbicide from adjacent farmland. Stourhead/Mere area is quite a distance from sea so probably not that. Ask Head Garden and/or Head Ranger based at Stourhead if they have had a similar problem.
The whole tree/trees turned brown and this was for about 2 months around jan/Feb time. It wouldn't be salt from the roads but farmers herbicides did cross my mind. To look at, you would think the tree was dead.

Good idea to speak to head gardener at Stourhead.
  5. A customer of mine lives near Stour Head where the ground is very fertile and some grand specimen trees on their property and locally. Now a huge mature redwood and a mature wrc turned completely brown for several weeks and then after some rain about 10 days ago they look completely normal again. Has anybody come across this before? No works have been carried out in the area. Also a young yew tree, approx. 5ft high turned brown also, but this has not come back.

    Thanks in advance
