Can anybody advise me please of the best option for splitting large butts. had a load of 2 year cut oak and ash cheaply and have cut down to log lengths but want to know how best to split 2foot wide butts. Cheers guys

The more surface area you expose the quicker the log will dry, cut it into logs and store inside. I also dry mine through a container drawing a lit log burner one end and a fan expelling moisture out the other end with a curtain preventing the air flow to high in the container so having to pull through bags.

What should i be selling an 85x85x85 bulk bag of hardwood logs for ,i have dried them in a container down to 20% moisture( after tips from some of you guys ) and am close to a firewood company and another stove company selling bulk logs for around £150 a bag they are not 1m3 bags or at least don't look like it so some advice please as i am just starting up part time in this business.

get in touch with me i may be able to do a deal with you i have insulated wooden interlocking boards available if interested, i have insulated my unit with these and some aluminium backed roll for the roof

you seem to know what you are talking about catweazel ,the other option i have considered is as my container is next to my unit to pull dry air into my container from the unit through a ducted fan and extract it out again with an extraction fan making sure i am only pulling in dry air form inside my unit,letting the sun heat the container and as was said earlier painting it black,the other note to mention is whether to insulate container or not because if i insulate the container it is preventing natural heat penetrating the container from the sun, by the way i work for an insulation company and can insulate for free.Your thoughts appreciated.

thx catweazel are you advising not to try to hard to get below 25%mc as the cost to get to 23% does not do it justice?

thx catweazel it is mainly part seasoned ash, and on average was 38% mc when starting, i could probably do the maths on that to get it down to 23% i wish i was weighing the water deposit from the start but it is a fair amount ,will weigh a daily deluge at start of next cycle, but for sure the higher the starting mc% the more water needs to drain.

will do that in summer when air outside is dry ,don't want to pull damp air in now otherwise defeating the object.

just started and wanted to move them,can store 150ish bags inside unit plus 18 in container plus a big yard outside so any advice would be welcome
