  1. Hi all, I'm just wondering if any of you know anywhere that has upcoming dates for a re-take of the PTI course? I've searched on google but it's not bringing up many results within an acceptable travel distance. Ideally I'd like somewhere that provides a refresher in the morning before the re-take (I've found some places that do not provide this). I'm in Northamptonshire and am willing to travel up to 60/70 miles. Many thanks
  2. Small top handle. Using the Stihl 150 on anything up to 6" is a dream.
  3. My local shop has 2 harnesses to choose from!! I've always fancied a Treemotion. Perhaps try one at the APF this year.
  4. Hi all, I'm after a new harness having been in the same make/model for 7 years. I've only used the Petzl Sequoia in my time, but I'm finding it really aggravates my hip line, and legs in the leg loops when climbing all day. (Probably because I'm too skinny!) Also it's be nice to have good rear support when carting heavy saws around a tree. I find with the Sequoia it always pulls the harness off of me so I have to be careful. I've been told to check out the 'Notch Sentinel' harness, but I've never heard of that brand. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Jack
  5. Hi all, To put a long story short, I've been instructed to produce a tree condition survey for a client for all trees on site, as well as this they've asked me to comment on a Virginia Creeper that covers most of their building. In all honesty I havn't had much experience of creepers in the arb world, especially commenting on one in a report. Do they come under Arboriculture or Horticulture? I have to admit they haven't cropped up in any of my training from college or PTI. Has anyone else had this issue or anything related? I'm going to add a caveat in the report stating something along the lines of what's written above. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
  6. Thanks for the replies! I might go for the MSA Chipper spec ear defenders. I've just seen these though: https://www.honeybros.com/Item/Peltor_Optime_2_Helmet_Mounted_Ear_Defenders_3M They look pretty chunky. Another option is to wear some basic ear buds as well.
  7. Hi all, I recently purchased a Stein Kask helmet to replace my Petzl helmet. I love the helmet but I have one issue with the ear defenders. I use the standard Husqvarna ear defenders (as used on my previous helmet) but I feel that they don't clamp down on my ears/head enough to provide decent ear protection. Has anyone else had this issue? I will either buy some Stihl Peltor ear defenders, or buy the thicker/wider Husqvarna style ones. Have any of you guys had this issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Jack
  8. Hi all, I've owned a Husky t540xp for a couple of years now, and its had its fair share of problems and breakages. Recently the crank case has snapped clean where the chainbreak handle connects to it!! Plus this wasnt through use with aggression, I just looked down and it had happened. So, the price for a new crank case + all other parts needed to be replaced due to the nature of stripping the whole saw down to rebuild is astronomical and I might as well get a new top handle saw. Like the Husky the ms201tc-m has this computer sh** inside it and doesn't have the tuning holes. Just wondering peoples opinions on how this saw performs without being able to manually tune it. And am I right in thinking the build quality is better than the Husky? My husky got no end of cosmetic dammage. Many thanks!!
  9. I personally think this is Trametes gibbosa, and the second picture maybe an old Armillaria species? I thought I'd get a few other opinions to confirm. Cheers, Treespasser
  10. Pleurotus ostreatus, pretty common on chestnuts in the winter.
  11. Ahh I shall remember that! Thank you very much for the info, much appreciated. Treespasser
  12. Thank you very much Hama! How can you tell it is Daedaleopsis and not Daedalea? Is it because the pores face away from the wood? Thanks again! Treespasser
  13. Hello all, Was walking home today and found this on the floor, not sure what species of tree it is off of. I'm relatively new to fungi, so any help would be appreciated. I thought it might be Daedalia quercina due to the maze like gills. What do you guys think? Cheers! Treespasser
  14. Completed the survey. Will we get a sneak peek at this creation? Thanks, Jack
  15. I could definitely make it over if I could find Bow Brick Hill or Shenley wood. Sounds good. Treespasser
  16. Ah Milton Keynes isn't too far, and I will do! Thanks very much!

  18. How about general work? Do you know if anybody is looking for a climber/groundsman? Thanks
  19. Hey there, I am looking for some kind of apprenticeship, to gain knowledge and skill at work as I am relatively new to the industry. Thanks a million, Treespasser
  20. Thanks for the suggestions. I did purchase a little storage bag at the open day too, £2 is no where near as dear as the collapsible cube!! Treespasser
  21. Hello guys, I purchased my first throwline down at the FR Jones Open Day on Saturday, and I was wondering what the best storage method was for it to prevent knuckles and twists. Also, would you de-twist it by using the same methods you would for a rope? Thank you! Treespasser
  22. Whenever I tie this knot, it never stays tight. It always slips.
  23. Thank you guys for the help!! (My mind did think of Poplyporus or Meripilus at first, until I saw the underside aswell) Treespasser
  24. Hello there, I saw these fungi on a large Horse Chestnut tree, my first thoughts were Meripilus, however they would have turned to mush by this time of year. 1st Image: Fungi at the base 2nd Image: Underside of fungi 3rd Image: Above ground 4th Image: Above ground Thanks, Treespasser
