  1. Hi All,

I am installing a second valve block onto my Cat 308 to control a grapple saw and need to t- into the hydraulic system to take a constant feed from the pump.

    1) Is there an ideal place to take this from

    2) where is it best to take the feed back to, I assume straight back into the tank?

    3) Are there drawbacks to doing it this way? I dont really want to run it through the main valve block due to causing extra stress to this?

Any comments or ideas would be great

    Thanks

  7. Thanks for the replies so far and a bit of an update

I managed to have a bit of a play with it yesterday, the two connections on the end are the forward/reverse drive but nothing seemed to come out of the 3rd pipe on top. It was only on idle speed and with no pressure on the pump so this may change when I can actually put a bit of stress on it.

The plan is to finish the mounting bracket at the end of this week and take it for a little test pull somewhere.

  8. Hi all,

Picked this hydraulic winch up last week and managed to get it inside today and take a look.

All of the other hydraulic winches that I have seen/used have a tow way motor and 2 hoses, however this one has three, any ideas how it would be setup?

It was to replace another I have for the front of the tractor, current setup goes in to the rear spool valves and in/out is controlled off of the levers in the cab and would like a similar setup with this one if possible?

    Thanks

  9. Hi All,

Possibly require a contractor with a 360 mounted mulching head to tackle an area of rhodo that I am pricing up in Dorset.

Diameter of up to 10" on most of the stools and the ground is ok in some areas and a bit wet in others.

There will be 5-10 HA to clear depending on progress so happy to work on a day/hectare rate.

    Operators must hold FMOC qualifications.

    Any suggestions please call/email/pm

    Thanks David

  10. When FISA was first introduced I thought we were all onto a good thing. A forestry specific organisation that is here to improve health and safety and reduce levels of red tape....Winner!!

So far all that seems to have happened is a lot of position changes within the management structure of the organisation, arguing and the introduction of poorly thought out FISA refresher courses, which, were already offered by both NPTC and LANTRA.

In order to be compliant on some of our FC contracts and to be a little bit safer I wanted to book onto the FISA FM works manager course for myself and another member of staff, and the location that these are run ... North wales or South Scotland we are based in Surrey!! When questioned about this and asked to put on a course in the midlands/south of England I was told it was not in their interest to do so.

Am I a paid up member of FISA .... Yes

Am I a member by choice ..... NO

Would I be if I didn't have to due to FC Contracts ..... NO

  11. As above I am looking for 3-4 people to fill out a team for cutting rhodo in Wareham, Dorset.

Starting last week of Feb and lasting for 3-4 weeks, £100 per day + Bonus if completed ahead of schedule.

must provide own fuel, saw, PPE and be FISA compliant with your tickets (Last 5 years)

for further information or to register you interest please contact me on 07896 036 437 or via Email [email protected]

    Thanks

    David

  12. Thanks for the detailed responses guys, especially for your very long post Eddie.

I am aware that my budget makes the search for machines a bit limiting however I have already looked at a few that don't seem too beaten up.

If I were to get a machine with aux controls on the foot pedals is it possible to convert to using a rocker switch/ roller on the joysticks, similar to in a forwarder for sensible money or it is out of the question.

I like the Cat 308ccr, it seems like you get quite a lot of machine for your money with one of those, has anyone driven one on a regular basis?

  13. Hi all,

looking at buying a 8t excavator in the new year and looking for some input as to the machines to avoid or seek out. Looking to spend around the £20 K mark so machines are likely to be around 10 years old. The machine will be used with a selector/demo grab for burning up on scrub jobs and moving timber in the woods, some ride building and possibly in the future being fitted with a tree shear or smaller harvester head.

So far the wish list comprises of:

    Zero tail,

Piped for aux hydraulics at the head, preferably with controls on the joystick instead of foot pedal

    Steel tracks

Low hours and operator owned machine

I have used some of the newer kubotas and didn't really rate them but that could have just been the hire machines we had. I like the look of the JCB JZ70 as they look to have a much stronger boom design than he 8080 etc however happy to be proved wrong on that.
