  1. I think the human species is beginning to evolve beyond the simple drive to procreation(despite having 3 children.) That big brain we have must surely be put to some use in our future. With no spiritual meaning or purpose to life we may as well live inside a computer. Sh#t, i'm gonna log off now.:laugh1:
  2. Questioning yourself is a strength not a weakness. What were you planning on doing that makes you feel so unsure? I am a hypocrite, i'd feel the same, but these things are seldom as bad as we expect them to be. There is often a lot to be gained from following the advice of Nike, Just Do It!
  3. Well, er, the fact you don't have to tie and untie your termination knot. I can see there are benefits to untying it as well mind.
  4. Mother nature is all the more powerful to me too but does that mean we carry on regardless inspite of that.? Power, beauty and succor. Divine.
  5. It can be tied pretty tight to the krab though and the Yosemite tie off is something I use all the time these days. If you use the anchor or buntline don't you loose the benefit of being able to unclip easily for changeovers and throws?
  6. I have had saws that have puzzled me when tensioning the chain. Sometimes tightening the nuts seems to tighten the chain too. Try tensioning so it is a little too slack, with the nuts just slackened off enough, rotate the chain several times, tighten the nuts up and see how it is. Don't know how it could be different with the bar flipped??
  7. I can empathize with that, totally, but you are on a journey of learning that will never end, you know what you know , which is not to be underestimated, but I reckon you will never be satisfied you know enough. The world of trees has enough secrets to occupy scholars their entire lives. What you need to do is convey your enthusiasm and thirst for understanding in a way that will encourage others to see more than a large bit of wood that needs cutting. Jesus, you don't know everything, we can all see that. Fcuk the critics. There will always be those.
  8. Yes, I can understand that and I am just seeing a large declining tree leaning over a garden and house.(Sorry, that is not meant to try and confirm my point, but accept my shortsightedness) If it were up to me I would move the house a tree lengths away.
  9. Don't start undervaluing yourself. You are a unique arb with a great outlook on trees and ecology and you have been invited for that reason. If it is not all as solid as a rock then tell it as it is. You are part of the evolution of the industry. A true working arb that has learnt to respect trees and their ecology through being with them. Mind you, I would say a prayer before doing it.
  10. Yes, I know, I have done it when felling, but this situation just looks too confined to be redirecting a failure. Just commenting on what I see before me, on the screen like.
  11. It is the human way. Most of us believe our own ego. I know I do, I know I'm right. Now, who is it that is going to inherit the Earth? The wise and self assured isn't it? Mildly amusing perhaps, but it ain't funny.
  12. :lol:I don't know why I feel compelled to give my opinion when yours is clearly far more learned than mine is . The crown appears very thin, the tree is declining quite rapidly(it appears from the photo?) and there is a permanent high value target below several tons of oak. Fell the tree and erect large sections of the stem in an upright position away from reach of target/s. Personally, I would only consider guying where there is no target of more than low value to prolong the existence of a valuable tree in a low risk environment. If a tree leaning as heavily as that failed when guyed what would happen to it? Ok, perhaps it wouldn't fail if guyed, but if it did it would be a hell of a swing. Is the value(estimated remaining contribution) of the tree high enough to go to that much trouble? Apologies for being negative but the situation doesn't seem suited to guying to me.
  13. How about combining the two? How it is possible to retain trees with fungi by reductions. How climbers can recognise body language to climb safely and perform suitable reductions to alleviate the stress underlying the language.
  14. I would and do favour the way of living Hamadryad talks about too. The peace and rest that is found when we are close to nature doing what our ancestors did through history is a spiritual link to our origin. At the top of a tree, deep in the woods, on the beach or cliffs, as far from modern life as you can be. The challenges of the modern world are very real and are increasingly acute. No god is going to come and save us. We are a blink of an eye to the planet we live on but the legacy we leave is becoming something that will linger much longer. Each day the damage we do to the ecosystem we live in accelerates and the results of this impact on our world more and more. The further our lives move from a natural existence the more distanced we are from the reality that we cannot exist alone. The time when the natural world could be plundered because there are plenty more fish in the sea is gone. The more our numbers grow the more species we loose. Is there only so much life our planet can support? Of course, every resource we have is finite and should be respected as such. Isn't it about time we stopped looking to the gods as confirmation we are above nature and started worshiping the force that really gives us life? In stead of asking are you a Christian, try asking are you someone that lives on this planet and would like their future generations to do so with the same fortune we are lucky enough to be blessed with. Give up religion and take up reverence and respect for nature. You still get to preach and be a hypocrite.
  15. Sorry, this is descending to the ridiculous now.
  16. Posts like that should be subject to moderation. Taking the lords name in vain and putting the words "pretty" "long" and "cock" in the same sentence is highly offensive to me.
  17. I must apologise again because for me it is not really religion that is emotive but more human nature.
  18. Congratulations. What denomination of gay are you?
  19. Still, if I'd realised you were a moderator I would have known you wouldn't have known that.
  20. Yes your right. Sorry, pretty tasteless. Just trying to make the point that we all need something to fall back on at times and it might not be important what that is if it gets us out of the dark place we are in. Thats the problem with people, we are fragile.
  21. I must make an apology for my appalling language, borderline blasphemy. Oops.
  22. Don't know mate. Consumer therapy? Or perhaps looking reality in the eye and realising nature has it's own rules and a destiny for us all.
  23. Yeah but the misses is too demanding. She always wants me to do something around the house I mean:lol:
