  1. Did absolutely no wrong in letting nature take its course. Its the way of the world I'm afraid.
  2. Yeah the RSPB don't take anything to do with injured birds ( despite their financial position ) Its down to small volunteer local wildlife centres, but that bird looked in a bad way . I once rescued a Tawny owl caught up on old fishing gut which recovered but also found a short-eared owl on the road , very similar to your situation. Unfortunately it had broken its back and had to be euthanased.
  3. Looks from your photos to be concussed , i think its fair to say its been glanced by a vehicle. If it didn't put up much of a fight its in a bad way. Do you know the outcome?
  4. Brilliant photo. I can never remember what one of the sexes says Twit and what one says Twoo !
  5. I've said as much on a similar thread. Guys turning up with the latest gear , fresh out of college with no experience , turning up at a big arb company . Let the fun begin ! Its not about racking up every ticket available at this stage but a gradual process of learning and confidence building. I for one can remember my boss taking me to the side and handing me a big box of new climbing kit when i passed the course and how that felt inside. I feel some of the new starts on here (hopefully not cartman) want to run before they can walk and don't realise what their actually missing out on. Good luck cartman I've no doubt youll get sorted soon.
  6. What you are saying is right for a general member of the public finding themselves in an emergency situation. Not trained professionals. The reason i am so emotive about this is because i nearly went down a pit shaft walking my dog less than a mile from this accident. I reported it to the land owner immediately and fair due he got it sorted straight away but there is no way i could have ever got out of there.
  7. Her condition couldn't have got worse SHE DIED. Uninformed decision ? By our best equipped and trained emergency service !!
  8. Thanks for reply Roni. Excellent little vid by Pete aswell.
  9. Thank god theres still people like you out there geoff. The guy that designed the safety equipment that was on site is outraged that it wasn't used as well as mine rescue who were never contacted.
  10. More say the owl because its an imprint i.e it has been raised from a chick by humans so thinks its a human itself. Still a lovely little film though.
  11. Agreed To think the womans young daughter was standing there listening to the plaintive wails of her dying mother as the emergency services just sat there really makes my blood boil.
  12. Totally agree. It has always amazed me why you must sit an entrance exam, get a formal interview, provisional acceptance THEN your fitness test last ? to join the police force. I mean what type of people are they trying to attract?
  13. How the emergency services could stand there and listen to that womans screams and not do something is beyond me. I didn't realise until tonight that two kids jumped into the river clyde and saved someone drowning as the police looked on. Something has gone wrong somewhere.
  14. Sorry, last comment meant for Roni's set-up
  15. Is this set-up to allow greater versatility and control of varying size limbs i.e being able to drop it into the back of a truck everytime ?
  16. Thats one of those jobs when the boss phones you say ' this is going to be a nightmare , I'll give you a bell in a couple of days to let you know how were gettin on'
  17. Would a very light vegetable/sunflower oil be ok? Seem to remember Ray Mears carving some nice sweet chestnut chopping boards.
  18. Utility companies will want their pound of flesh but probably be better quality of work there ( assuming its only arb work you want ). General landscaping/arb companies may be slightly less pressure but you could find yourself say in a spraying squad in spring and summer and fencing aswell as doing treework.( theres no guarantee this couldn't happen in utilities) Alot will depend on how you are treated as an individual anyway and finances.
  19. Our old cat does that to the dog aswell. Its a right dignity stripper!! ( to the dog )
  20. They even filled out a risk assesment.
  21. Those beavers could put some cutters out a job!
  22. That birch thinks its a willow !!
