He is a coded weldeder and is going to make a few designs of capstans to break into the arb market they will be very competitively priced. they will be weight tested and will carry a ce mark as he contacts to a larger company that will cay out this. I just wondered if any of you have any ideas or advice that he could put into his designs as i do very little lowering my self and my capstan has proved fine for me. Many thanks adam
  3. Hi im new to rigging but understand basics been doing tree work for a while now. im in process of getting a light rigging gear set up. when i ordered my rope they ran out of 14mm double esterlon so then sent me 16mm i thought great. i now want a pulley strop etc but how do i maintain the rope as weakest link as its 7ton ish breaking strength that's some strop. i was looking at a large isc swing rated at 70 kn but i would need a karabiner to attach but they are only rated to 25knish aint they? and how do people get away with capstans as they are only rated to 1 or 2 ton?

  5. Hi All Thought i would put up a quick post. Been helping some guys out clearing trees over a lane and some were up on a sand stone cliff and most have cavitys hence why there being removed. Been there for 3 days and today i was whinching some over for the first 2 hours and them climbing for about 5. Ill run thhrough the day was winching the first tree uo the bank started to go nicely then it reached its pivot point and broke sideways no damage just a pain the the arse as it took two hours to get it on the deck. Then when climbing went to fell a bow at the end of the day about 10 inch diameter 60 ft up and i just got the lean wrong and it sat back had to get a rope up and pull it off and the wind was making it rock thought it was going to come back at me. Ive been doing tree work and climbing for 12 years just started up my own business so im more climbing than ever and my confidence is increseing:thumbup: never really had much in myself and i had one of those days that knocked me back and i started to think do other people do this ? why am i making these mistakes? Just wondered.
  6. and i think some may be about 20-35 inches about 15 of them i still carnt get my inches right
  7. hi i just carnt imagine doing it all with a pedestrian i thought it would takes ages unless the ones i used in the past werent sharp
  8. hi all i looked at a job today got 80 stumps to grind out, 10 being about 5inchs, 10 being about 10-15inches and 60 being about 15-25inches. i was thinking about hiring a carlton 7015 as it looks like a beast on the web site. i just thought i would ask for a few views on costings. im not new to tree work or stumpgrinding at all but new to pricing. my first thoughts are 7015 for 3 days. is it asking to much to do just over 25 stumps a day. as its on a golf course they are spread out abit as well.
  9. With reagard to my previous thread when removing the laural with suspected Phytophthora do the roots need taking out as well? or will it cause more trouble. been looking at my uni notes and at time not much info on Phytophtora root disease. i will be buring the branches:thumbup1:.
  10. i have done a bit of research and Pseudomonas bacteria on laural causes leaf damage holes etc.. and can lead to cankers is this correct? i could not see any on the tree just the ooze and coral spot
  11. hi all Lokked a a cherry laral today and im new to asessing diseases and stuff but im i right in think it has Phytophthora after looking in my books. i has white gummy ooze about 6inches up on main them. it also has coral spot all over but i presume this came afterwards. other plants near by are starting to show signs of die back, another laural and a rhododendron. i have attached some photos any thoughts

  18. Hi All I visted a property today to dpo a quote and there was two rowan trees about 15 years old. The lower 2 braches on both tree has died and were soft to touch. I looked all over the tree and all i could find was some small whitish sposts on one of the dead branches. i ahve looked in diagnosis of ill health in trees and i was thinking silver leaf maybe. as the owner did say the leaves went funny? I have just started up my tree care business after 10 years in the game i have RFS cert arb and in my last year of my Fdsc in arb., but sometimes i forget a lot how do you go about inpecting trees and finding the disease,s etcc. many thanks adam
