  1. something along these lines, however there are many shapes and sizes of reader out there so could be anything really
  2. that is deffo and rfid type tag. they can be used for access controll on doors etc, clocking in machines etc, also as mentioned above they are used widely in the guarding industry as way markers for a set route. they can also hold information, so maybe it could hold information regarding this tree like a register for the trees on an estate etc
  3. that sucks mate. i have had an incident like this where i lost a whole disk that contained all the photos of my kids from birth onwards plus loads of other non-replaceable pics. i looked into data recovery specialists that basicly tear the thing apart in a lab and fire lasers at the plater to recover things that software and pc shops just can not do. i hope this is of some help mate. there are a few company's offering this service but i would talk to them and get quotes as the cost can be very high. ben.
