  1. That was one of the things Roughhewn used to always say.
  2. I'm using Stihl Moto-ix in my milling saws. Yes it's expensive, but I hope to recover that money on the milled product and the fact that if I don't touch the saw for a year (unlikely) it will be ok and run faultlessly. So less spent on maintenance. It's a tough call, unless you search out the other 0% ethanol products.... and they still go off.
  3. A small (50cm) bit of maple that I milled was b@stard hard. Dulled chains like nothing before. Also reading on a different thread about the unsuitability of Acer as an exterior furniture, I assume you have plans for it? It'll be interesting either way to see how you get on, judging by your other milling, hopes are high.
  4. Bottom pic.... Wow! 7 in hand. Plenty of carriage drivers round here but 7, no. Keep the posts coming please.
  5. I have used Tung oil as it is food safe and no petrochemical additives. Only downside is that people with nut allergies can react to it (I've been told). I'm sure others will be along to give better advice. Good luck.
  6. Not sure I'm any help, but your experiences are certainly worthy of committing to script. Be a book or other log/blog. Sharing with your family?
  7. Yes Top Man. Not dead yet! 50 was a breeze. 40 was my personal nightmare. Made redundant no job, struggling etc. After that everything else was like a holiday. Happy (belated) Birthday to you. Onwards and upwards.
  8. For me it was a hurdle to get over. I did AND without falling flat on my face looking like a tw@t! So I was happy. Next one is 60..... 4 years away. Hopefully can muter the same grace! (fingers well and truly crossed)
  9. That bottom right entrance/exit looks so similar to the wild bee colony I have in a cedar. That waxy look on the bottom lip. I hope you get a safe result that works either way

    Chickens?

Yep. Decent energiser and sheep netting.
  11. It is sad event. Not pleasant for anyone involved. 2 things... 1 )I can't remember the distance but think it's close on 3m for the safe distance from 11kv to avoid the "jump" 2) Complacency...always there. The - "I've done t a 100 times before"....always a bad start to the story. Risk assess yes, but complacency is the killer.
  12. I must admit that I thought the same. Maybe the weight saving of the Carbon Fibre is off-set by the "tank guard" ????
  13. If you are old enough to understand the reference... 😉 I'm sure it'll sell. 14. That would be interesting. I would have thought the whole oil mix would exclude them from any "healthy" emissions

    Chickens?

I'd be looking at en Eggloo or something similar. The house and run are integral and in a smaller garden give you the ability to move it around. The chickens will tear up a little "yard" and turn it into a quagmire. Moving the run ease the burden on the ground and also self fertilises the grass. Win , Win. Echo all other statements re- Avian flu and rodents. Don't leave lots of feed around and it'll be easier to manage. Fresh eggs.....winner!
  16. I use a biscuit joint bit in a router. Trying to make the most of one tool. Look forward to the progress photos. :-) https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-biscuit-jointing-kit-47mm-4-pcs/65290
  17. These chaps seem reasonable. Hopefully UK made. Table Legs | Metal Table Legs | Hartleys Direct WWW.HARTLEYSDIRECT.COM Give your Kitchen Table a new lease of life or just get the look you've always wanted with our great selection of table legs...
  18. Had my portek for 8 months and it's magic. All my milling chains 3/8 LP and .404 go through it. I find it easier to set up than my Granberg bar mounted. That still gets used to put a quick edge on in the woods. From memory F R Jones was cheapest delivered.
  19. Hi, Is the vertical cut jig a Chinese jobbie or an Alaskan?
  20. I answered 17 as that is what the stat is set at in all honesty. It's an old house and heating it warmer is a waste of fuel (LPG) That said, the woodburner in the lounge easily heats us up to 20 Plus... and that warmth ensures the thermo rad valve is closed. also makes all dogs and cats crash out around the fireplace.
  21. Hope it works. Fiddly job but it did cure my 261. Best of luck.
  22. Cut old sleepers with a chainsaw to make a garden retaining wall. Blunts chains faster than anything else I've cut. Ended up using a 9" grinder and metal cutting disc. I imagine it'd be just as hard n your band saw. I'd be very interested in your experience and results.
  23. You've done a M-tronic "reset" on it? My 261C did similar. New solenoid did the trick.
  24. i've milled some and the boards were ok. Very light in colour and took oil or stain easy. I've also gut it and dried for firewood and it does ok. Not brilliant but not too bad to mix in amongst other stuff. In the end it's how much time and space you have. The boards will take time to mill and dry. My preference I'd firewood it and save your chains for something nice.
