  1. Hi, Do any of you work nr to Guildford surrey and have a saw with a 4ft bar. I need the top cut off an oak butt that is about 8ft across, therefore doubled up with a 4ft bar. just the 1 cut needed and a guide price please.

    Hi, Can anyone recommend a resin that is clear that can be used to fill cracks and knots and then sanded to a smooth finish please?

  9. Well, its down and looking good. Looking into sending it off somewhere not too far off, If a lorry can lift it. About 8ft to first branch stub and 10ft to fork
  10. Yes, I cut some Holm oak, amazing wayey grain pattern but very dense
  11. I think she was worried i was going to drink it! You can buy it much chepaer online for horses etc, so may get some more that way. Loving the boards. Is spalted material ok? I suppose the fungi dies when the wood dries?
  12. oh lovely checked board. Yes have some fromthe chemist but they are not keen to order it in. Lots online as a vets laxative as mineral oil but is it still food safe?
  13. Hi, Is baby oil food safe? Done another couple, The natural edge one london plane and the other is ash. Wish the snow would stop so I get out in the garden and sand a few more. Anyone got any pics of their boards?

  18. ordered some liquid paraffin aka paraffin oil from the chemist. None stock itbut will get it in. She quizzed me to make sure I was not going to use it as a laxative! Will give the board another sand and an oil
  19. Thanks Will, Yes all good thank you. Have a small woodmiser of our own and plenty of stock. You inspired me to get into quarter sawing london plane with some great results.
  20. It's only been cut about a year but in a short log for another year. I did read the oils thread, and tried the chemist for paraffin oil but they don't do it anymore so will shop around. Good for stools according to the online chemists but not sure they are talking about seats!!!!!!!! Wanted to get one photographed to see if they will sell.   21. Might scale down for the next one, 20x12, 2in thick is a bit too heavy!
  22. Cut from a london plane branch fork, and oiled with a veg oil.
  23. Hi, Taken down a walnut today which was leaning on a wall. Have not cut the trunk off yet so not sure how much heartwood there will be. Have read that the stump is good for gun stocks but how much trunk, or how high above ground do you cut it? thanks Alex
