I build log stores to customer specs and sell them in the Cardiff area. Some examples are shown here... Log Stores | Things From Wood My stores are built from 2" x 2" framing materials. Roof and sides are clad with 5" x 1" feather-edge. Base is 3" x 1" lengths on 2" x 2" joists. Materials are dip-treated. Stores are raised above the ground to prevent the wood being in direct contact with it. As a rule of thumb, mine cost approx £100 for each cubic metre of internal volume. Price includes local delivery and installation. I've tried selling self-assembly log stores further afield, but shipping prices always seem to take the price above a level which customers are prepared to pay. In terms of a selling price, just work out your costs and how much profit you'd expect to make. If nobody buys, you've either not found your target market or the price is too high or both.

Hello, Apologies for resurrecting this fairly old thread, but to answer the original question - I don't buy in log stores flat-pack, but build and install flat-pack stores for customers in my local area. I've found the cost of haulage of these items to be fairly high when shipping to customers further afield. Smaller stores holding approx 1 cubic metre can sometimes fit on a single pallet and the cost is usually reasonable, but for anything larger - which is most stores - the costs become prohibitive. Buying a new engine case is an option, but I've not been able to source one in the UK. Also, they're around $40 in the US, so may be £30+ over here. A picture of the damage is attached. The hole is around 2" long. I've ordered a tube of Quicksteel from Amazon, so will give that a try. Thanks very much for your help, Matt

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice regarding a repair... A bolt holding the exhaust on my saw (Hitachi CS33EB) sheared off recently and the red-hot exhaust slipped down and melted into the plastic engine case, resulting in a hole in the oil reservoir. I've tried to repair it with fibreglass, but used the saw today for the first time and there is smoke/smouldering coming from the repaired area. There is only a small amount of clearance between the exhaust and the case, so I don't think the repair can take the heat that's coming from the exhaust. Any suggestions as to what I could use for the repair of the plastic case which could withstand the heat from the exhaust? Hope you can help, Matt

The site looks good. As other posters have mentioned, it's ideal to not use Flash to display content and to build it with standard HTML instead as it'll load a bit quicker and most importantly Google's spiders will be able to read the content. This'll help you up the page rankings. Also, you can use your content to try and target people in your market. So if you'd like your site to be ranked quite high when people Google for "tree surgery essex", your site content could be structured with that in mind (in addition to keywords). All the best, Matt -

Hi, I run a small woodworking business and over the winter have supplied a number of log stores to customers in the area. Most of these people have just had a log burner installed and ask if I know of any decent local wood suppliers. I have a log burner, but cut my own wood and so can't provide a personal recommendation. I've made some enquiries, but the people I've contacted are perhaps a little expensive (more than £130 delivered) or selling fresh-cut wood. Is there anyone in the Cardiff area supplying and delivering seasoned firewood by volume at £100 or less per cubic metre? Thanks in advance, Matt

I've not used many, but the Fiskars X27 is way better than the mauls I've tried before. If you buy one, order it from Amazon dot com as its way cheaper to get it from the States and have it shipped than to buy in the UK (as a previous thread on here mentioned).

Hi, I've ringed up a tree that was covered in ivy around 3" diameter, and so now have a fair number of 10" long ivy "logs". Is this safe to burn when seasoned? I've done a few Google searches that have taken me to sites warning of the dangers of smoke from poison ivy, but they were US sites and could be talking about a different plant.
