Forest2Furniture's Achievements

  1. As part of my business USP I built and ran one yrs ago for drying Oak and Sweet Chestnut boards. Winter sun is still very strong, so providing you have the roof angle set at 45 degrees you'll get both summer and winter drying.
  2. A lot of my customers are old school makers who prefer air dried over kiln as they can bring it down to the desired m/c they want. A lot of big yards that advertise kiln dried stock will, once out of the kiln store the planks in barns where the timber can take on moisture again, very few yards wrap the timber up in plastic as is the recognised procedure.
  3. I don't do much chainsaw milling these days but I got a call last Feb to mill some 5" thick slabs from a 5' diameter 14' long felled Oak stem. The client wants a full width x length table top finished at 4". I only got a few planks done, with the weather closing in together with the fading light on the day of milling that and the planks had to be moved from the field where the tree fell and stacked in an old shed that the client had set aside to dry the planks which seemed a good idea, except the internal size of the stone built shed is 14'6" x 9' with a 10' wide entrance. All this meant I only got half the tree done. I went back last week to finish the job only to find the remaining lump had been moved undercover into a large pole barn where the planks were also to be stacked. Slabs that big can't be moved by man power alone no matter how strong you think you are so I had to take along my new toy that I use in the yard.
  4. It's banned as a food additive in the UK. I used to use boron to treat timber but moved to Lignum Insecticide Pro. It's more expensive that the boron powder but no one wants there hard earned timber being turn to dust.
  5. I'd really like to catch the muppet that left this felling attempt next to a footpath in my woodland. I suspect it was done by one of the thieving gits when the nicked the 15 felled and fallen trees.
  6. These are 3" planks, I'd be surprised if the buckle
  7. Unfortunately they're not mine but I believe the customer is thinking table's. They'll dry fine, once dray, machined, sanded and polished the colour and figuring will bounce back
  8. I've milled many trees over the last 20yrs but this recent Ash has to be the most stunning to date. Average (single) board size 3" x 28" x 10'
  9. Looks like it was cut into 5' lengths and carried out with a tracked vehicle of some sort, 25 timber trees in total
  10. No properties nearby, open countryside just fields and other wooded areas.
  11. Looking at the saw dust they took them out in 5' lengths judging by the tracks they used some sort of bobcat or similar.
  12. Update on this, having had a proper walk round the woodland today I've found that every fallen tree be it previously felled or storm damaged and still connected to its root-plate has been taken. That's 25 timber trees in total ranging from 14" diameter to 30" and mostly 40-50' long.
  13. Not a lot I can do about this I know but it's on the increase. I felled some lovely big sweet chestnut 26"+ diameter a few wks back with the intention to haul them out this wk only to find some thieving git had broken down the access barriers to the woodland and had it away with trees. Local plod have been informed but as you'd expect, they're not interested in stolen equipment they're certainly aren't going to care about whole trees.
  14. I've just had a price from logosol for two guide rollers, £54 each plus VAT & delivery total cost £141.54.
  15. I've got a mobile mill, get your mate to give me a call or send me a message
