  1. I've got a 4 ton horizontal log splitter. Question is, would I be better off with one of these? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  2. How would I know if the garage timbers are treated? The house is just built and is timber framed. I built the shelves out of timber the builders left behind. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  3. Cheers, so looks ok this time of year but if I have dried firewood stacked in my garage over the summer would that be a problem? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  4. Started storing dried firewood in our integrated garage so that I don't have to go outside on a wet night to get some more. Just wondering if there is much of a woodworm risk with this. Stored on shelves i built in the garage. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks for the info. I'll give mark a call in the next few days. Dave Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  6. I'm looking to put a twin wall flue in a self build we're doing. Just looking for some advice on bits I need. It's a 7m run, straight up from the ground to the stack. A space has been built into the gable end for a flue to go. Can I just get a run of 6m of twin wall and put it in? What's best to fix it at the top and the bottom? I'm planning to finish it in the space just above the hearth and then fit the stove a few months down the line. Any experience much appreciated. Dave Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  7. I'm looking for something that is you don't have to put up the chimney and take out each time you use it thus making a mess. I wonder if there are door like things that you can pull or push a lever and it will block off the chimney? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  8. Anyone got a good way or device to stop losing heat from a room up the chimney? We're doing a new build and one room will have a wood burning stove but we would like an open fire in another room but don't want to lose all the heat from the room when there is no fire there which will be a lot of the time. Cheers Dave Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  9. Just put winter tyres on my car yesterday so some snow would be great! Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  10. I did spend some time considering that idea and I went onto a helicopter forum and asked them about how I would go about doing that. Got some interesting advice!
  11. Thanks, just don't want pi$$ people off by asking what are probably fairly basic things for most folks.
  12. Should be fine. The freezing point of petrol is about -60oC and I can't imagine the added oil would make that much difference. Even if it did when it thawed it would be fine I'm sure.
  13. Thanks for all the info guys. I know I'm not a pro (just a guy with a bit of land) hence coming on and asking you guys for your thought and experience. Let me know if you’re not happy with a non-pro coming on and I’ll scarper. Cheers Dave
  14. When I have a felled tree in the ground what's the best way to deal with cutting it into rounds? Obviously if you put the saw all the way through it then you'll blunt it on the ground but then if you cut part way through and then follow it that can be hard if its a big one. Basic stuff I'm sure but i'm not a pro. Ta Dave Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  15. I need to hire a petrol log splitter later in the year or at the start of next year. Anyone know where I might be able to get one in or around Lanarkshire? Ta Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  16. Yeah I do like the roller but i'm not sure if I have the right one. Can anyone tell me what one I should have for my saw. Not really sure how all the chain sizes work. Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  17. I'm thinking I might get an oregon sure sharp. Anyone used one? I know it's good to sharpen by hand and that but would be good to have something to do it quick when out and about.
  18. OK, thanks for that.
  19. Thanks for that. Could well be me... What you do is put the wee thing over the bar and then what I'm doing is sharpening it so that my file runs parallel with the edges of the thing that goes over the bar. Not sure if I should just be running the file in line with the wear mark.
  20. I have a Husqvarna 455 rancher and bought this to help me sharpen it: Husqvarna 505 69 81-25 Chainsaw Chain File Kit 325 It works fine and gives me a nice sharp chain but I've noticed that when I use it the sharp edge I get is at a slightly different angle to wear line at the back of the tooth. Is that ok or have I bought the wrong one? Hope that makes sense. Dave
  21. Dunsley Yorkshire is the one I've been looking at. Can you get the renewable tariff for stove or do you mean for the ashp and solar thermal? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks for all the info guys. I've been in touch with a guy in Stirling today who does this sort of thing so we'll see if anything comes of that if now I'll look these other guys up. I'm going to put in an ASHP and solar thermal so the stove will be the 3rd thing that feeds into the thermal store. It will be setup in such a way that if we have it on and it produces heat then that will get stored in the thermal store but if not then the ASHP and solar will feed the thermal store. Thank again.
  23. I'm looking to get a wood burning stove tied in with a central heating system that we're going to install in a self build but while a lot of people will supply and install a wood burner I'm really struggling to find people that know how to safely integrate a wood burner to a central heating system. I phoned a plumber that I got from the HETAS site and they said they didn't do that so not quite sure why they were on the HETAS site. Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows anyone about the Glasgow / central Scotland area that does this? Ta
  24. Thanks for that. Updated my profile with my location. Cheers Dave
