  1. Just thinking about splitting the big load. Can you hire petrol splitters? I mean the sort that will split and round into 5 or 6 bits in one go? If so how much would you expect to pay for a days hire? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks for that guys. Got a bit to split at the moment but going to have about 10 good sized spruce and beech that are coming down later in the year. Might take me a bit of time to get through them. Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  3. I've got some rounds from trees that have just been taken down and I'm just wondering if I should split them now or season them for a year or so and then split them? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  4. Just south of Glasgow. I think you're right, that's sort of what I've found. I'm tyring to tie it into an ASHP and solar thermal with UFH.
  5. Interesting to read these things. I'm looking to link in a Dunsley Yorkshire into our heating and hot water system in a self build we're just about to start on but quite a lot of companies who do things like ASHP (air source heat pumps) either don't rate connecting up your stove to your hot water tank or think it's too complicated to bother with. Has anyone got that sort of system and if so how do you find it?

    Hung tree

Just checked back tonight after being away today. Good to see we're all playing nice I was down today taking some wee sapplings down and cutting up some stuff that was on the ground. I had a couple of guys come and give me a quote for taking some bigger stuff down and so they're going to sort that one out at the same time. I appreciate all your comments so thanks for giving me your thoughts and advice. Cheers Dave

Yeah, reckon it's a 2 minute job for someone who know's what they're doing. Better that than me do myself in. you know what it's like though, you just want to learn and be able to do more things but I guess it's a case of drawing the line somewhere.

    Hung tree

No I appreciate that guys. I know I sound pretty fippant but I have the upmost respect for my saw. I'm a teacher and we're doing a self build and this is a tree on a bit of the land we have. I've used a chainsaw on and off for the last 15 years and I'm under NO illusions as to what they can do to your leg or somewhere else. I think the tree is pretty dead so I'll have a look at it and see what I think. I have a couple of guys giving me quotes for taking down some trees so I'll have a chat with them about it. Just fancied the challenge as it's not a big tree but I know what you're all saying and the last thing you want is another amateur doing himself in 'cause he tried something that was beyond him. Cheers

Yeah was thinking that might be the answer. Fancy giving it a go though. Not going to do anything stupid like.

    Hung tree

Evening gents. Noob with a chainsaw here just looking for a bit of advise so I don't kill myself! OK, I'm not planning to do that but looking for some thoughts here. I've got a hung windblown tree: Just wondering what the best way to get it down is. I was thinking of sending the wife walking up it till it falls down but she don't seem too keen to do that (woman!! ) so I was thinking of doing a notch cut on the top of it and then a back cut underneath. If it's still hung after that then I was going to put a rope around it and run that back to the car and pull it down. Will I kill myself? Ta Dave
  12. Yeah got roundup stump killer from a garden centre. What's the other stuff? Thanks Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  13. Yeah was wondering if that might be an issue. Sounds good, so basically keep an eye on them and if they sprout next year hit them again? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  14. Just a guy with a bit of land here so please excuse my ignorance. I'm going to cut some were saplings at the weekend and want to make sure they don't come back. I have roundup root killer, will that be ok to use? Just spray it on the stump and that should be that? Cheers Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  15. I have an android phone and really rate android. I think it has caught up with the iphone and is leaving it behind as a platform. I have developed a few educational apps for the iphone and apple don't make app development an easy task. Google on the other hand are working really hard to make it easy to develop android apps. This means there will a lot more android apps in the long term as opposed to iphone. Also lots and lots of different hardware manufacturers are producing phones that use android. This will push the pace of innovation as they are all competing with each other to produce the best phones. Also there are a load of tablets that will run android coming out in the next few months so that is another area that will develop? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  16. Great, any plans to produce it for more saws? Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  17. I want one for my 455 rancher..... I'm away to throw a tantrum... hate filing!
  18. Rats....! Looks great, read some good stuff about it from folks that seem to know what they're on about. Ah well, maybe they'll bring out a bigger one. Cheers
  19. I'm just looking to see if anyone knows if the oregon powersharp will fit on my Husqvarna 455 Rancher (Husqvarna Group I've had a look on the powersharp website but I'm still not sure if it'll fit my saw and I'm a home user of chainsaw (not the bedroom like...!) so a bit of a noob when it comes to being able to work out chain pitch etc... any help would be much appreciated. Dave
  20. Right that's it, getting the GB maul. Had to cancel my credit card this week but when my new one comes through this will be my first purchase. Thanks for all your help guys. Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  21. Can't seem to see the Fiskars super splitter from Westfalia. Can you post a link if you can find it. Ta
  22. Yeah was wanting a fiskers but can't find one so think it'll be a GB. Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
  23. Yeah, had a bit more of a look at it and reckon it's worth spending the money on. I was thinking I might get the splitting axe rather than the splitting maul but then I think I might as well just spend a bit more and get the maul and be done with it. I wouldn't want to get the axe and then wish I'd got the maul.
  24. I do like the look of the Gransforrs but it's not cheap. The englebert ones look good too. Ta
  25. I have been trying to get a good splitting axe for a while and just looking for recommendations. I'm looking for something to split wood I cut on our land that I intend to dry and use in our wood burning stove. Any thoughts grateful received. Dave Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk
