  1. completely agree, by the time I eventually worked out how to pronounce "kretzshmaria" they changed it back to "ustulina", they are just trying to mess with us all! cheers ciaran glyde
  2. I heard from someone- (cant remember who!) that the boffins at kew have decided its swapped round again, im not sure which one it is now! but im sure you would of heard about it to, so dont talk me 100%! cheers ciaran glyde
  3. Here is the list of fungi- who ever posted it on arb talk first thanks so much- I doubt I would of passed other wise! Professional Tree Inspection Course Fungal Organism List * Armillaria mellea * Fistulina hepatica * Fomes fomentarius * Ganoderma spp (adspersum/applanatum) * Grifola frondosa * Heterobasidion annosum * Inonotus dryadeus * Inonotus hispidus * Laetiporus sulphureus * Meripilus giganteus * Perenniporia fraxinea * Phaeolus schweinitzii * Phellinus tuberculosus * Piptoporus betulinus * Polyporus squamosus * Rigidoporus ulmarius * Sparassis crispa * Kretzschmaria deusta (Ustulina deusta) I would also reccomend clause matthecks manual of wood decay, I got the book and with the list made flash cards of each fungi, takes time but works well and great asset for the future, I will email you mine if you want, I think I'm going to put it on arb talk for everyone else anyway. If there's anything else you want to ask don't hesitate asking. Cheers ciaran glyde
  4. Hi tony- firstly best of luck! do you know the fungi you need to know for the test? if not I will find the list for you, basically if you have a fungi ID book and put sticky notes on the fungi that you need to know your half way there as you can use the book in that part of the test. the tree inspection my advice is to be as thorough as you can, you get enough time for it! get all your equipment ready for use before the time starts(seems obvious, but i was surprised seeing people untangaling dbh tapes etc! ) and for the test part, is where apparently most people struggle(my point of view the hardest part) where you have to answer the questions word for word with no referances, my advice is to make notes on everything and go over them time and time again after each day, i can give you my notes, but i dont no if thats cheating or not! best of luck and if you want the fungi list just say! cheers ciaran glyde
  5. shigos modern arb is such a good read, and very easy to read for us lisdexlics! cheers ciaran glyde
  6. hi, welcome to the forum, if i was you I would post this in the employment section, also employers would be intrested to know which nptc tickets you have. best of luck. cheers ciaran glyde
  7. this is what we will all be saying in 10 years time!: Treebot climbs trees, is a robot (video) -- Engadget
  8. im in wrexham to! if anyone in that area could reccomend a campsite or b&b near to the place that would be smashing! cheers ciaran glyde
  9. Was wondering today how long it would be before I'd see one on there! It will be interesting to see how much it goes for, I'm sure if you bought a few at the arb show dirt cheap and sold them on there you could make a lot of money. Just so wrong as anyone with there 39 will go else where and the unqualified will be more likely to get injured and more bad publicity for arb. Rant over... :-) Cheers ciaran glyde
  10. cheers mate, im pretty sure I know who you are now, sorry im crap with faces! i havent climbed at college for years tbh, I still love my tree climbing but find the consultancy side so intresting. I dont no about your year but we only have two weeks left of college for the year, so I was thinking about maybe one day either the last day or early in the hols having a arb get to gether and have a recreetional climb at college and a couple of pints somewhere? if you guys are intrested, i will create a facebook event and if you could invite people in your year that would be great cheers ciaran glyde

  14. I did my pti with informed tree services and would reccomend, they actually charge less than the arb association dose, there's probably closer locations to you as he's based in Hamilton-http://www.informedtreeservices.co.uk/ Cheers ciaran glyde
  15. I'm going to Wrexham, instead of sending a booking form if you ring them up and book you can be garenteed a place. Keep me updated if intrested! Cheers ciaran glyde
  16. Glad you got the tickets, loved the show this year!(well it was my second!) The bs3998 course is free! It would be good to have another arbtalker there, I booked in this morning! Cheers ciaran glyde
  17. Hi thank you for your imput, I compleltey agree which is why I'm working at the moment as a tree surgeon and not a tree consultant/officer, I admit it's not full time but it's better than nothing! So ridicule away Cheers ciaran glyde
  18. Hi Paul, thanks for those useful links, I'm going to the bs3998 course in Wrexham and unfortunately cannot go to the amenity conference which I was looking forward to due to the fact that's the first week I'm doing my degree! I am very interested in the what is it worth course and the tree consultancy, I gather by reading the web page that there is no test and the certification you get is if you attend? And especially the consultancy course sounds quite advanced, how to you think someone with two years experience in arb would fair at it? Cheers ciaran glyde
  19. Cheers for the kind words, and the amount I've learnt in the past from your posts! I did my pti with a company called informed tree services based in Hamilton, a great company, would deffinatly reccomend to all, I did the basic one with them in december, and as I loved it so much I asked him about the professional course, he did say that he doubt that I would pass with my lack of experance and small amount of knowledge but he said it wouldn't be a waste of time as you learn a lot with the lectures of the course, and basically after each day of the course I did about four hours revision through the notes and fungi and I passed! I gather from what I've read on arb talk you are a tree officer in London(sorry I may be completely wrong!) but if you are what qualifications/ courses would you go on to get into the position you are at? As that would probably be a dream job of mine after my degree! Cheers ciaran glyde
  20. Yes, I completely understand, well ive been working as a tree surgeon in my holidays from collage since janruary last year, and I reckon I still will work for them when doing my degree, so by then I admit my knowledge of tree surgery won't be as comprehensive as a lot of tree surgeons and some consultants it willnhopefully be sufficient for the job. If not I will be asking a lot more questions on here! Cheers ciaran glyde P.s how did the tickets go on saturday?
  21. Yeah, I'm currently working for a tree surgery company in Dorset in my holidays when I'm not at college, I love it, but recently I've found the theory side so interesting it's converted me! Cheers ciaran glyde
  22. Thank you very much for the prompt response, I will deffinatly look into all of those! Cheers ciaran glyde
  23. Hi- basically I'm wanting to get as many theory qualifications under my belt before I go into work. I want to go on another course before I start my degree at askham bryan in September. My long term aim is to go down the tree inspector/ consultancy route. At present I have: A diploma in forestery and arb Cs 30,31,38 (39 soon) Cscs card soon Basic tree inspection Professional tree inspection Can anybody reccomend me a course/ exam I can do, to gain more knowledge and another thing to put on my cv? I am prepared to travel nationwide so venue recommendations are also appreciated! Cheers ciaran glyde
  24. what a great video, these you tube videos was what got me into tree surgery! keep them coming! cheers ciaran glyde
  25. yes, id deffinatly agree with that, deffinatly the best deals about on the bargin table, if i was XXL there were some type c's for £25! unfortunatly the only thing there that i wanted was a troll rope grab for a impressive £15! cheers guys and will deffinatly see you next year!
