  8. Hi guys- last shout to see if anyone is doing the degree in arb next year at askham bryan, I dont know anyone on it yet and it would be nice if another arbtalker was doing it! if you have been there in the past I would love your thoughts and recommendations. and any locals to the area, if you could recommend anything to me, also looking for a local (rock) climbing wall/ climbing partners! cheers ciaran glyde
  9. I wish I could say this is a once off for students, but Ive just completed my level 3 diploma at a college which im not going to name for the obvious reasons. me and id say 75% studied very hard for the whole course like you should the majority got awarded with a triple distinction, and then people who were only trying to achive the pass or merit got awarded with a triple distinction. I personally think if you did a ID with students at my past college with just basic trees I reckon only 90% of them would pass. to be honest I think its the same with the cs units how people are passing them when no where near competent. friday night rant over!!! cheers ciaran glyde
  10. whens your bedtime? its my bedtime now, but I wont be able to sleep if I don't find out I wont be able to sleep! tell tell tell!!!
  11. I dont think you can use a dongle due to the fact of there not being a usb port, If you want a longterm cheap deal you could alternativly do the ipad 2 deal for say £22 a month and then sell the ipad 2 sealed on ebay for say £400 and then buy a used ipad 1 and with the money difference between the two it can work out to be like £10 a month! cheers ciaran glyde
  12. personally I dont think there is much difference between the Ipad 1 and ipad 2, so if you want a deal you can get a ipod 1 on ebay either used or refurbished dirt cheap, and then if you shop around you can get a very cheap sim only contract for the ipad. hope this helps! cheers ciaran glyde
  13. downloading tap talk now! would love a arb talk app, but seen as it was 4K for the app I was going to make id hate to think of a price for a fourm app. id still love it though!
  14. hi thank you for your input, unfortunately I could not afford to make that app, the basic app is costing me around 4K, if it sells well I may deffenitly do somthing along those lines as a add on, but that would be significantly expensive. cheers ciaran glyde
  15. thank you for your kind words, unfortunatly the app isnt going to be £1 as the start up costs are huge (£4,000+) Im thinking in the reigion of £3-£5 hopefully that wont put to many people off! cheers ciaran glyde
  16. hi, thanks for your input and very good points. firstly the preposed app will also be as accurate as the person using it. I have just above given my diagnosis of why the compass app wasn't reading correct. and finnaly im first to admit that if you want to measure trees deadly accurate to buy a clinometer or a laser ace etc. but for a easy to use £3-5 app I belive it will be accurate. im not trying to be patronising but basically the basics of the app is trigonometry as im sure you know. so the app like a clinometer will ask you to stand X meters away from the tree and then you tilt the phone up until the top of the phone is on the top of the tree and lock the degrees. this then will be inputed into the built in trig calculator to give you the height of the tree. so aslong as the user points the phone at the top of the tree correctly(same mistake as people use with clinometers or laser aces) and are the fixed distance from the tree, the only thing the app could get wrong is calculating the degrees, and the designers im using have done many accurate spirit level apps which is the same concept. hope this all helps. cheers ciaran glyde
  17. hi, thanks for your imput, completly agree on that one, I think the problem the guy had with the compass was that he didnt change the defult compass settings on the app to magnetic north as its defult is true north. but completely agree that with any app you need to ad common sense with it to get a accurate reading. cheers ciaran glyde
  18. Hi at the moment im not 100% sure if there is going to be ads on the app, basically the app is going to cost me about 4k plus maintance charges and apple take 30% of each sale. so if I dont have any ads I will have to charge more over wise its going to be very hard for me to break even, let alone make proffit, we shall see though! cheers ciaran glyde
  19. hi- thanks for your input, iphones comes with a compass app, plus the cost of making these apps are very expensive, so im trying to make it as basic I can with the software I want. really appreciate it. cheers ciaran glyde
  20. thank you all for your contributions, looks like im going to be talking it through with the designer tomorrow and he reckoned about 4 weeks to get it onto the app store! so if anyone has any ideas for the app, and I have been advised to charge a bit more so I would be intrested to see what you all think a fair price would be for the app? all input appreciated and for big development ideas a commission may be negotiable! cheers ciaran glyde
  21. Hi can you please clarify the name of the app? I cant find it. cheers ciaran glyde
  22. Hi, thanks for your response, sorry to be niaive but who else would be intrested in such products? cheers ciaran glyde
  23. basically it works just like a clinometer using trig and will be deadly accurate, If i have enough intrest I will be talking to some web designers in the next week and will be in the app store soon! cheers ciaran glyde
