  1. Trees, which i think are rowans, keep popping up around the garden.Normally next to fences etc. I think the seeds must be transmitted by birds. They put down deep roots right from the off, which can be difficult getting them out with them being so close to fences etc. They grow at a hell of a rate. Problem is ones growing behind the greenhouse which backs onto the neighbours fence. I can probably reach behind with a lopper, but i really need to kill the stump.A paintbrush on a stick dipped into something maybe? I`ve got some creosote in the shed. Would this do it, or maybe jeyes fluid? Cheers.
  2. Most of the time i reach for the 026. Good for most things, but my 046 with an 18in bar, it really feeds. Got a 25in e and 28in pro top for anything i`m likely to encounter. Great saw. In an ideal world an 090 will be my ultimate saw, but dont have much use for one, just nice to have.

    stihl ms171

Its just a homeowner saw, mostly made of plastic, with a clamshell engine. Really its just for a bit of light pruning around the garden, or cutting a few small logs for the fire. Not in the same class as pro built stihl saws. Dont expect too much of it and you wont be disappointed.
  4. To get the rings compressed so the piston slips in easily, i use a band of mild steel.A drinks can would do,wrap it around the piston and bend out a couple of tabs to get some needle nose pliers on.Squeeze the tabs together to compress the rings and slip the cylinder down over the piston allowing the band to move down. Rings are brittle so be carefull when you fit them.
  5. I`ve got one of these and find that every now and again it floods badly. Dont know why it does it, but with the plug removed and turned upside down, a shedload of mix comes out. I just let it drain, heat the plug with a lighter, reassemble, and its off like a top.It will be fine again for a while. Its only my light pruning saw, so i dont worry too much about it, and have had it apart to fix an oiling problem. Nothing showed up. Is the plug really wet after only a few pulls? Might be the tank vent not working too well leaving a vacuum, allowing an amount of fuel to be drawn up when left standing.

    ms 200t tuning

A good tuning article: Saw Carb Tuning Cheers Andy.
  7. New member checking in. A bit about myself: I had always been wary of chainsaws, but bit the bullet when i fitted a stove. Now i have three, in my three saw plan to cover allcomers: ms180,026,046. Picked up all the safe working practices from a mate who had done the courses. Now do a bit of cutting and clearing as a sideline and to keep myself,my parents, and my bro in firewood which can be hectic at times. Expect i`ll spend most of my time on the chainsaw forum as i enjoy working and maintaining them. Rebuilt a basket case 026 a whileback, new bearings, piston and rings, oil pump, seals, polished ports and muffler modded etc. Have a couple of project homelite super xl`s on the go at the mo as bad weather shed projects. Cheers Andy.
