  1. More concerned with hornet nests tbh (and wasps) Some hives in and around the Heath which lead to the occasional swarm, but we just get the bee keepers in to help tuck them to bed .
  2. I think they do, more often I see them associating with either fistulina/Laetiporus or Phaeolus in pines and cedars. .
  3. Trees and bees eh http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/ecology/76653-fungal-induced-habitat.html .
  4. Not entirely with you on this one Chris, but then I'm just opening my second bottle of riocha .
  5. Some later stage remnants of fungi on oak and pine Psuedoinonotus dryadeus, Armillaria rhizomorphs and Enteridium .
  6. Fell it, replant If only so we can see the hippy tripy decay patterns inside What's the building's age? Potential root damage from the build? Have you ruled out those green alga covered blobs being Rigidoporus? .
  7. Definately Kretz Not going to look good inside that one I suspect. .
  8. Great shots. That's well advanced, must have been colonising for years. Picked up via fruit bodies? .
  9. Play nice fellas ! Let's try and keep this one as close to the OP's original question as the thread was intended please. Other 'issues' should stay off the forum. Thanks .
  10. Nice tree and setting Jake. Would be interesting to see how it fairs over the next couple of growing seasons. Branches with any level of Massaria infection all succumb eventually Ime .
  11. Multiple host species in terms of Fomes, as this thread appears to show Mainly on birch in Scotland. Not sure about Fomitopsis, as it's pretty rare. The two most recent finds across the myco forums have been on beech. .
  12. Our tame mycologist has a theory that both Fomes and Fomitopsis are extending their host range northwards. .
  13. we had that posted before Chris http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/21495-spotted-fomes-fomentarius-norfolk.html Haven't seen it myself in Norfolk .
  14. Nice Sean, How do you catalogue your images? You must have thousands ! .
  15. Not really in my experience Jake. It's possible that there was more going on with your tree and that there may have been a number of pathogens and environmental issues in action. What was the ground like? Compaction, moisture issues, salt damage? .
  16. Good to see you posting again. Great video Fine sounds .
  17. Thank God (or what ever) for the relatively lucky outcome. Does it make you think twice about working in that particular environment? .
  18. Blimey, was it a crash from height Reg or has it slipped from some kind of temporary landing platform? How were the occupants? is that the same helicopter you were in? .
  19. The watching hoards expect nothing less Good luck with it mate .
  20. Out of interest, what method was used to confirm it Jake? .
  21. Yeah, should do he trick. Might add some mycorrhyzal injections just to be on the safe side .
  22. agreed Top work Mr Coates, an education and a pleasure to watch .
  23. Well put together by the LTOA Massaria working party. Another sizeable removal from yesterday's work .
  24. I'd concur that Citizen science isn't a cure all, it certainly has its place (and probably an important one in terms of education) but perhaps not so much when the FC have to chase down red herrings from CS in the form of Chalara being reported from elms and other non target hosts. As an example I received a reply from the FR Tree Health Diagnostic & Advisory Service today on an enquiry I highlighted whilst engaged in a London wide Ceratocystis survey.....................from last August ! They are stretched and underfunded beyond belief. .
