  1. Haven't used this myself, but this app/website lists wines that use cork stoppers. You can add to it also. http://recork.org/corkwatch/ .
  2. Chris, do you recall this one at the Chelsea Physics Garden, the place where Peter Thomas gave his lecture? .
  3. Powerful image Sean If you haven't already, have a chat with the ATF about the access issue. I'm sure they would be very interested. You're probably well versed and aware of the 'The Disability Discrimination Acts, 1995, 2005 and the Disability Discrimination Regulations, 2003' An interesting look at how it applies to countryside/woodland access here..... http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/OPENspace_Disabled_access_Task1.pdf/$FILE/OPENspace_Disabled_access_Task1.pdf .
  4. Looks a good book Chris. Agree with your principals and taste Sean, mirrors my own Had a lad from Portugal on the team a few years ago who's family owned and managed a cork oak woodland for generations. We have a small twin stemmed one in a walled Mediterranean garden at work. It's never had its bark stripped, might be interesting to go through the process and put up an interpretation board to let people see a different aspect of the tree and its cultural history. .
  5. Fascinating look at the industry and ecology around the cork oak woodlands BBC iPlayer - Natural World - 2008-2009: 5. Cork - On the Wild Side .
  6. Any close ups of the darker ones on the right hand side Will? The exaggerated fluting morphology suggests Innonotus dryadeus is in play with this basal decay. .
  7. I have my fungal spies and eyes far and wide This fine looking dryads saddle on a Bramley apple in the garden of my parents neighbours in deepest darkest Norfolk........ .
  8. I doth my cap Sir, that is most excellent workmanship. .
  9. It hadn't raised its ugly head last year whilst I was there Sean. Ted, Nev and Helen were over there a couple of weeks back so I'm sure they will have a better 'more local' handle on the situation. I haven't had a chance to talk to any of them specifically about it yet. Will speak with Nev when I get the chance in a couple of weeks. Hadn't read this particular article either, thanks for posting. .
  10. That's a well developed set of chicken brackets Mr Moose. That must have been on the go for a week or two. .
  11. Cracking tree Mr Shutler, and very nice work btw. Is this a first phase of an ongoing retrenchment program? If so, when's the second phase due in the schedule? .
  12. Rescued the branch before chipping, very little bark on it. Left hand disc is from the branch shown below, right hand disc is from another branch. .
  13. Looks like Laetiporus sulphureus to me Will. Any idea what wood the sleeper is? I would guess it's oak Out of interest, did you try using the fungi colour search option on the app? .
  14. Good ones ! That looks pretty shot. We're these all from ground level or from higher up? Look forward to seeing all the cross sections. Sent our Resi comparisons to you and Paul earlier on. .
  15. On the way from the Arb yard/recycling depot in the middle of the gardens, past the lake, heading towards the gate to the car park along the river. There's only 8000 or so trees, so it shouldn't be hard to find .
  16. Twin stem sycamore with decay running through the middle of it from the base up in to the stems. No fruiting, but I suspect Kretzschmaria deusta. .
  17. Did you catch the Perenniporia on plane that I posted last week? that was from Kew. .
  18. Bit difficult to miss them this time of year, they tend to wear their 'I'm over here' suit ! .
  19. Literally can't do them all. Last weeks Resistograph masterclass at Kew with Bernd Luell from IML was very good .
  20. Very little bark on it Jake, just a thin slither underneath. You can just make it out at 5 o clock. Didn't get a shot, but it's still on the trailer. I'll try and remember tomorrow .
