  1. Can anyone tell me if species have to be mentioned on a preservation order?

I know they have to get the species right if they put it on but is simply putting "deciduous tree" sufficient?

Seems a bit shabby to me.

    Ta

  2. Nice little tree. Given the location and the first hit when you Google it I'll bet the owners paid a small fortune for it from Architectural Plants.

It's a well established tree Jon, don't think it's gone in recently.

Probably should have had a better look about might have found some other treats.

  3. That must have been a task and a half. I reckon this tree is also at least 3m at ground level so maybe similar age. There was a huge manor house on the site which burned down early last century so I'm told. The remaining gardens are still very impressive, lots of veteran trees.

I was relatively green at the time, I can remember the climber up there taking the limbs off with a 066 and lumps fling off as he crashed it down.

There's a video somewhere of the butt going over, prob on vhs.

  4. No guesses? It's a Liriodendron (tulip tree). Anyone seen a larger one in the UK? This must be amongst the oldest and largest. Amazing Tree, pics don't do justice

I helped in the removal of one in dorking 20 Ish years ago, it was about 3m diameter at ground level as I recall.

We thought at the time it was one of the original 7 that were imported, no idea if that's true but it was massive.
