  1. "Given that Jenkinsons aka Stobarts where one of the consultees on the August 2014 document it would be difficult for them to contend that they did not know Arb arisings was not a sustainable fuel." Can you clarify what this sentence means?
  2. Power generation, although many of the larger plants are heat and power. Residues from arboriculture In DECC’s Government Response published in August 2014, it was confirmed that arboricultural arisings would be exempted from the sustainability requirements of the Timber Standard for the RO. Arboricultural arisings comprise/will be defined as material that is removed as part of tree surgery, management of municipal parks and verges of roads and railways. DECC have confirmed that where industry seek to rely on these exemptions under the RO, it will be for the biomass supplier or generator operator to provide Ofgem with evidence verified as part of the annual sustainability audit reports which allows the regulators to determine that the relevant exemption has been met. Operators can discuss with Ofgem the type of evidence which they would consider acceptable for verification, bearing in mind that it will be a legal requirement under the European Timber Regulation (EUTR) to collect information about the origin of such material.
  3. Just to clarify the point regarding Sustainability, Arb chip is exempt from this, as is Waste wood.
  4. I keep revisiting the idea of self loading trailers but just can't get the volumes to stack up against end market price for the lower grade arb chips. As Jon has said, the blowers can be very effective but it needs to be dry, free flowing and uniform size material. Not often found in tree surgery yards at the lower price point. Telehandlers are often the most convenient solution its just finding a local farmer/builder who can help you out. Happy to talk to you about options.
  5. Fair point Mesterh, but they are all available on opensource, websites, search engines and the like, and are all aware that I promote their businesses, wether thats for employment or work.
  6. Have you tried Chris Wakefield, Penrith 07900 233661, Mat at Tyla Tree services, Penrith 07890 773104, Mike Graham at Arbor-tec, Keswick 07919 386737, Julian at Derwent Tree Surgery, Keswick 07763 311030 or Sam at Eden Treescapes, Penrith 07889 009899. Good luck.
  7. James, I will pass your number to a few people that I know, who may be able to supply you. It would be a good idea to contact a few local estates nearby to see if they have anything suitable, often they can deliver small tractor forwarder loads.
  8. Old Snake, I am going to guess you already have an outlet for your chip, but give me a call if you want to discuss. Simon - 07717 291439
  9. EA Regulatory Position Statement "Summary This document explains when the Environment Agency will consider wood to be a waste, what regulatory controls should be followed and our recommendations to industry. The document deals with virgin timbers and non-virgin timbers. Virgin timber is of the type from forestry works or virgin wood processing such as wood off cuts, shavings or sawdust from sawmills or timber product manufacture dealing in virgin timber or cuttings and brash from tree felling or other forestry management operations. Environment Agency position • Virgin timbers are not waste and will not be subject to waste regulatory controls provided that they are certain to be used for the purposes to which virgin wood is commonly put. These uses include use as woodchip in gardens or on pathways, as a raw material for composting, as animal bedding, as fuel in an appliance or as a raw material for the production of wood based products or in paper production. However, if virgin timber is mixed with waste timber, it will all be classed as waste."
  10. John, do you want to PM me some contact details, it may be we could help each other out a bit.
  11. I have a few contacts with yards for dropping woodchips in the Bolton, Manchester areas if your interested.
  12. Is it anything I would be able to help with? Would be happy to talk it over with you.
  13. I know of a couple of different contractors working on various CP sites. The one up at Whinfell is maintained to some extent by ther own team but the woodland management and thinning operations are undertaken by the landowner, Lowther. I have also picked up materials from the Sherwood site from a contractor undertaking the felling works.
  14. Have you tried Cameron at Sheffields? Bizarrely I too know Piers, he lives just down the hill from me:)
  15. Quick introduction. New to the site, not to Forestry, I have been working in and around Forestry for the past 13 years, starting from the cutters perspective now in management as a materials buyer for AW Jenkinson. If anyone has any wood chips or site clearance material I would be interested in hearing from you.
