  1. Are you suggesting i should just give you the sample pallets free ? I am more than happy to sell you a container load without giving you a sample at cost, however, most purchasers appreciate the opportunity to see the quality and quantity of what they are about to shell out a considerable sum of money for !
  2. We currently have some slots for full containers available during January 2014 All crated, ash or birch < 20% average MC. We are one of the UK's leading importers of Kiln Dried Firewood and fully understand the trepidation faced by parting with your hard earned cash on a product you have not seen. We are able to send sample pallets to potential customers at cost plus delivery. For an informal chat on supply and prices call Niall on 07966 029327 or 01361 883911. 3. Update - It is now over a week since i posted my concerns regarding Duncan Campbell-Spinner who appears to have ripped off several unsuspecting firewood merchants. I have tried to contact through various means, his Glasgow office is merely a company answering the phone on his behalf, they will forward messages, so he is well aware people are looking for him. His and his families facebook pages are easily found and might be the way to embarrass him into replying ! He does not answer his mobile nor his home phone. His supplier in Bosnia is also keen to catch up with him, having supplied firewood without payment. I now know of 3 people who have been shafted good and proper by Duncan Spinner and strongly advise no one to part with any money under any circumstances. Fortunately i have not lost any money but i cant help but feel cheated by this man, i thought i was a good judge of character and genuinely thought this guy was honourable, considering he was a Major in the British Army he has not just let his customers downbut his country, which unfortunately for me is Scotland.
  4. Apparently it is cold enough in the winter evenings to require a fire, not cold as we know it. Ironically enough i am off to Lanzarote for Xmas ! I am also in the midst of arranging a container of netted logs to Saudi which can see frosts in the evening !
  5. The logs were sun dried with an average mc <20%, i did not want to sell them through my retail site and most ended up with firewood merchants and strangely enough 10 pallets went to Tenerife ! Whilst it was acceptable i still prefer the ash i bring in from the Baltics.
  6. From my understanding, he is due his supplier, a chap called Darko who has a sawmill in Bosnia for several loads. Darko has not been able to contact either and is one angry man.
  7. Duncan Spinner ( Green Delta ) supplied me ( The Real Firewood Co Ltd ) with a single and I believe his first shipment of sun dried beech into the UK. The quality was good and I had no complaints, I agreed he could use me as a reference to any potential buyers. It has come to light in the last few days that Duncan has failed to deliver to customers who have paid upfront and also his Bosnian suppliers. I fully retract any reference as regarding his honesty and integrity and suggest anyone considering purchasing from refrain in the meantime. As a gesture of goodwill and as an importer who has been a victim of non supply after payment I will offer anyone who can prove they have made payment to Duncan Spinner ( Green Delta ) improved rates on full container loads of kiln dried ash and birch. Regards Niall Whyte Managing Director The Real Firewood Co Ltd
  8. Hang fire on purchasing from Green Delta, I imported a load from them, had no problems at all, good to deal with, the owner Duncan Spinner certainly seems genuine, however, I have been asked by a couple who have paid a large sum of money upfront to help them find Duncan Spinner as he has not been returning calls regarding there shipment which was due several weeks ago. I also agreed that Green Delta could use me as a trade reference, I now retract that reference and ask that nobody forward any monies to Green Delta.
  9. Drop me a line, I can do Ash, Birch or Alder kiln dried in various sized nets and quantities, Kiln Dried <20%MC. Best Prices Gauranteed.
  10. Please give me a call regarding your olive wood, I do not think that is olive wood in the crates ! Niall 07966 029327

  11. You are not allowed to sell HETAS approved firewood in nets only polythene bags ! I wonder who helped them come up with that spec !!!
  12. Give me a call on 07966 029327. I wholesale kiln dried hardwood in nets by the pallet ( 66 nets & 92 nets )
  13. A standard 45 foot container will ship 28 x 2m/3 pallets or 56 x 1m/3 pallets both will weigh approx 24 tonnes loaded with kiln dried mixed hardwood.
  14. MMmm, because i have not slated briquettes, I am the spokesman for a company that I know nothing about, strange. TimberCutterDartmoor Re: What do you reckon to this? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To quote the site: Blatant lies in red! There are many unscrupulous firewood and log traders who are claiming that their wood is seasoned, however this has been debatable claim for many years. Perhaps in Dartmoor there arent any unscrupulous firewood merchants, unfortunately the rest the UK is a bit different. " Do briquettes smell nice ? " Strange question, I guess they smell ok, not really into the sniffing briquette thing !
  15. Genetsteve, I imported Latvian RUF briquettes, which although I sold several pallets were too crumbly and expanded. I have trialled at least another 6 types by giving out free trial packs to customers in return for feedback. I have now pretty well made my mind up on the Verdo ones. Clean, no flaking and although they state 8-10mc the last lorry load are nearer 0 - 3%mc. In the UK we burn far less briquettes than almost all our european neighbours, I firmly believe in the UK we are 5 - 10 years behind the rest of europe in regards to consumer knowledge of woodfuels. This I believe will build up pace in the next few years and those of us who do not consider briquettes and kiln drying will be left behind. This is of course is only my opinion.
  16. Timbercutterdartmoor, "So what about the plenty of people who have invested thousands to locally produce good quality seasoned hardwood to low moisture levels? I felled some sycamore 24 months ago; it has been barn stored before being split 10 months ago. Yesterdays moisture readings were all below 19% (including the inside of a freshly opened piece)... " So what about them ?
  17. Andy, A good balanced view, your last paragraph in particular. No, I am not the owner of Burnswood.
  18. It was not the initial point I was commenting on. Of course anyone marketing their timber will claim it is better than their competitors as long as they do that with facts that can be backed up. I have made claims on my on my site that my firewood is "premium", you may not agree with that but i am within the bounds of the law to say that, so why would I not. I claim a lot of merchants sell green or partially seasoned firewood which has a higher moisture content, again you might not, but that is fact, I do not say how many, only that a lot do. That is the hard fact of marketing, make it sound better than your competitors. Heineken make their beer sound better than their competitors, "probably the best in the world". Their competition probably do not agree, but hey thats business, and to quote a rather apy phrase- If you dont like the heat in the kitchen....
  19. Dont think he will have a problem shifting the stuff, I have sold nearly 350 1 & 2 cubic metre pallets in 6 months. I would suggest the price is at the lower end for retailing of kiln dried. Quite why you think it is doing the firewood industry no good at all is beyond me, surely if he can sell for that price, that suggests there is a demand. Why is that doing the firewood industry no good at all ? "Promotion of firewood must be done to give firewood an element of being cost effective...................." Why should we not be allowed to promote to people who can afford to spend a bit more on their logs. So many on this forum are hell bent on slating anyone who so much as mentions kiln dried. Merchants selling kiln dried are the same as any other merchants, firewood merchants. They have chosen to sell a product that has been dried in a different fashion to seasoned log merchants, surely if they can do that succesfully then good luck to them.
  20. firewoodman, You must have a problem with your computer - at no time have I said on any post or incinuated that most firewood merchants do not sell top notch products, are dishonest, have excellent service. I too am a firewood merchant and respect everyone in the industry, so please do not misquote me.
  21. Firewood, "what it fails to mention is that if, as a customer, you want a guaranteed supply of dry wood you should be buying it in March or April for use the following winter. you should not be trying to order it 5 minutes before you need to burn it! " This is simply not true, if you want a guaranteed supply of dried wood you buy from a firewood merchant like myself selling kiln dried , ready to burn. Yes you will pay a premium, but you are not paying for water ! Like i said in my previous post, I would love to sell homegrown kiln dried logs, but the fact is, at the moment the price dictates I import it from Europe. I notice that many firewood merchants talk on this forum in tonnes, I firmly believe that until we follow the rest of Europe and start buying and selling in volume as opposed to weight we will always lag behind Europe in progressing the firewood industry. This is certainly not meant to disrespect anyone on this forum but why oh why are our timber industry leaders not moving to volume sales.
  22. I currently import kiln dried firewood into the UK, believe me I would love nothing more than to use homegrown, unfortunately price dictates I import. Their are people on here who will think i am Satan for doing so, but those same people will eat French apples, Kenyan beans, drink Dutch beer etc etc. It comes down to price, supply and demand. I think it is enevitable that we as a nation will have to rely more and more on imported firewood as our Biomass power stations come on stream. Jayvee, thanks for reply will drop you an email tomorrow.
