he sounds like an uneducated oaf, think like him, how would you kill a neighbours tree? nip into their garden and pour some oil based liquid or other harmful substance into the ground near the tree base, are there signs of ground disturbance? nearby vegetation suffering? a quick dig around in the soil might show up foul play. dont forget a lot of rowans are dying of a vascular disease at the moment, any photos? Ed.

strong smell of melting plastic/rubber last week, i annoyed the woman by asking her 3times what was on fire in the kitchen (she has a history of cooking pizza with the foam base still under it), then noticed the black rings on the carpet as the underlay was burning.. oops

erm i mean get some scrap bits of metal and weld them together till it looks right, i used body panels and tin snipped them into strips then welded them back together for practice, thicker stuff is easier to do so practice on thin stuff..

they aren't really the sort of tree that would pollard successfully, usually a messy crown that would be a mare to reduce anyway, nice bark interest but thats all, try to suggest a replacement maybe like for like so she can enjoy watching one grow up again, or something you can pollard and maintain as a nice pollard if thats the look she is after.. as janey says check tpo/ca etc first, have fun convincing her, Ed.

i looked into this a bit, surely stacking the stems undercover (outdoors in summer) would dry them out somewhat and you could chip them when dry? making dry woodchip. there was a grant for setting src up but ended jan 2010.
