  1. Spot on! sooner the better
  2. Thanks, youre an observant chap! Not entirely sure but as you say she certainly looks like his stuff. Havent had her from a pup.
  3. My pack! Well some of them:biggrin:
  4. Theres nothing wrong with any kind of softwood as firewood so long as its dry. The timber industry should be doing all it can to promote it as such because of the millions of tons of the stuff thats growing in the country. It may not realise the same price as hardwood thinnings at rideside but its got to be better than biomass/pulp prices! Surely its got to be a good way of getting a decent price for timber of poor milling standard. I do get fed up of the hardwood snobbery that abounds. I was discussing the issue the other day with a customer who has had about 15t of larch top off me over the last few months and we came to the conclusion that the people who have woodburners who Only want ash or Only want sycamore etc dont actually know how to get the best out of their burners.
  5. Thanks for your input guys. Its interesting that its not just a summer season product. Much appreciated:thumbup1:
  6. Cheers i wasnt sure how well it would keep ie: how much moisture it could reabsorb from the atmosphere, very good points about it breaking down & extra labour. Thanks
  7. Hi all After the recent post about charcoal production it got me thinking about having a go at making some for the 2010 summer assuming it aint gonna #### with rain! well you cant fault me for optomism:biggrin: I was thinking about getting going fairly soon with a few 45gallon kilns and building a stock up which made me wonder what the best way of storing it was? My initial thought was the plastic curry barrels with lids? or would paper bags do in a dry shed? Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks & a safe, happy & prosperous new year to all:thumbup1:
  8. Thats a nice fish wouldnt swap ya for a tope though:001_tt2:
  9. Ay up thats me mate. Fishing is terrible at the moment up here:thumbdown: 2 days on humber last week & 2 cod between us! only 1 of keepable size. Yak has been parked up in my kennels since sept due to lack of time. Hope you're doing better than us. Still it could be worse we could be spending days on end trying to catch fat lazy old carp eh! he he
  10. Tell them if its seasoned it will weigh less than it would if it were unseasoned! See how brainless they are:confused1:
  11. Cheers Its handy, the crane has a formidable lifting capacity
  12. From Russia with love!! well not quite russia and definately not with love-just a lot of noise, strange dials and levers and cables and a whole load of dodgy writing:confused1:[AT all over the place! My rig, Belarus 820 with botex trailer and crane.
  13. Best smoothhound this year (common) 10lb Best tope 43lb Fingers crossed for a good cod season!!
  14. Hi I used to work for a guy that sold a huge amount of logs and although i dont do split seasoned logs myself one of the things i learnt from him was that if you sell wet rubbish you wont be selling many repeat orders. I can remember taking a load of logs to a fella that had bought some from a local competitor prior to contacting my boss-the reason being the other firm took him a load of wet poplar! Ok in 12 months maybe but didnt burn to well in the state they were delivered in. Not a happy customer! I think honesty about your product is key and installs confidence in your customers, i sell firewood straight off my forwarder and make it abundantly clear that its fresh felled unseasoned hardwood,hard/soft mix or softwood. Best of luck with your venture:thumbup:
  15. Thanks for that:thumbup1: Itl be a satisfying job if i balance the figures
  16. Thanks for the replys. Its about 15mile north of Boston lincs near RAF coningsby. Any ideas what pulps worth? not something im familiar with? previously offered £7 - £10 ton for chip
  17. Hi All Im having a problem finding a market for about 100 ton of spruce 12 to 18" diam at shoulder height. At present its still standing (which is where it will stay until i can make firm plans). It was planted as a nurse crop for mixed hardwoods and is in desperate need of line thinning out! I would love to take it on so as in the future i can look at it with the satisfaction of knowing i played a part in improving that paticular plot of timber, unfortunately that wont pay my way. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Richard
  18. Hi All Im based in mid Lincs and am a one man band forestry contractor (not the the one man band with the cymbals tied to his knees etc!) though id probably earn more £££! Most of my work is done on a local estate, thinning, clear fell, tidying windblow whatever really. Have found this a very informative & entertaining site, wish id discovered it sooner!!
