The wood had been cut quite a long time, so that and the oil fingers crossed. I did have it sitting in my boiler house too.

My latest work, carved in Macrocarpa tools used: Dolmar 115 Stihl 114 electric with carving bar Dremel assorted saburr tips Sealey power file Drum Sanders And hand sanding Finish is acrylic washes to give the greens and burning. Danish oil and top coated with 5 bars of bees wax. Eyes are Glass taxidermy grade

I use the Proxon with the circular mini chainsaw bit and could not live without it. Used it for fine detail in areas that are difficult to get to, it's not the most powerful tool and it does have an on/off switch that can be turned on and off by accident so be careful. Never get complacent when using sharp tools

Always burn in my initials and the year I carved it using a hot iron

My best advice would be to trawl the net for photos, get as many as you can from different angles. Print them off and study them, take measurements and scale them up to get your proportions correct. When carving I find it helps to frequently step back and see how it looks, trial and error after that, remember you cannot put the wood back on lol

Same here I am never satisfied with what I have created, I can always see something I do not like about a piece. That said you have to stop somewhere or there wouldn't be any wood left As for things I want to carve the list is too long for now if I finish the Herons piece and the 7' Dragon I will be satisfied, until the next idea:thumbup:
