  1. if you get sealskinz dont bother with the kevlar "tough" ones, they last less than the grippy ones, fit worse, are more expensive and are less warm. still annoyed i got conned into buying a pair!
  2. Quoting/ advising on this one Rich, reckon if i go for a look, he'll defo want a price for takedown too. still it's been interesting finding out about conductors and the like, whole side of tree work i was unaware of! viva arbtalk!
  3. and thanks everyone for info and advice
  4. I haven't actually seen the tree in question, it's over 200kms away, or about a four hour drive.. the customer seems to think all i have to do is screw a wire to the tree and job done. trying to explain to people over here about tree care can be difficult, in fact i'm actually surprised he doesn't want it felled as this is the usual answer to any tree related issue in slovakia
  5. maybe, I haven't seen it, but am told its the highest thing around by about 10 mtrs, tbh I'm not sure it will do any good. and yes it is to protect the tree.
  6. I've been asked to fit a lightning conductor to a mature lime tree, apparently its been hit three times already. Does anyone have any ideas? I've never heard of it being done before....
  7. thanks for advice... i guess i was wondering if the much trumpeted x-torq powerhead was as good as they say, problem being i know the 390 will handle anything put in its way. but saying that the weight and reviews on the 576 where very good.yeah, 88man both would be sweet but not this year, i wish.... i'll go with the 390 i reckon, then i don't have to worry about something big coming up and not having a manly enough saw. plus if i'm climbing and need the 30 bar i don't have to mess about freeing it if it gets stuck thanks again...
  8. Hi all, I need a replacement for my ole 181 and looking at spec am thinking of one the two above. I need it for chogging down, ringing up, and a bit of felling in that order. I want to run two bars (20 and 30 ins) and as my puny biceps dont like big saws the 576 is looking pretty good, but will it push a 30 inch bar as claimed? Any advice much appreciated...
  9. Going slow in the wild wild east, have met local arborist, all very serious, just got back from dragons den style grant application, went really well, could be getting a couple of free saws! found a business partner, good climber quick learner, bad businessman, nah not bad, just inexperienced.... gotta go but will send email this evening all the best d.
  10. nice one mate! will email you with news from the east later. Free saw! jammy get!
  11. I'm setting up in eastern europe where the ISA seems to be well known in the industry, such as it is, over here. Could I do the course and exams online as I am not proficient enough in the local language (slovak) to do it at the local ISA chapter, and cannot afford to fly back to the UK whenever? Everybody seems to be obsessed by qualifications here as opposed to the uk, where i got all my work by word of mouth.... any thoughts?
  12. I have had almost exact same experience with the tree magic, wouldn't swap it for anything, but if you like heavy leather its not for you, more like a rock harness....
  13. makes alot of sense. never thought of of tying off the block twice before. thanks for info
