  1. nah go for the degree mate if your already in schooling youll get it straight off the bat, as for CAD training how long is that Cand G? and whats it cost? Im going to sit the tech cert exams for a laugh next year got any advice on the formats?
  2. lol going to stick to my natives! as best i can! ive never done any of that specimen id stuff, i know all the trees i deal with usualy all that arboretum stuff will throw me off! good learning curve though i was reading nomenclature the other day, actualy laughed out loud on reading fagus sylvatica "purpureum" asplenifoilim!
  3. im going to buy cad on a remortgage! may, get some stuff, give me some time to practice! thanks for the heads up! anything else I should know!
  4. your kidding! what we supposed to do go out and get a cad liceance!
  5. it is a good idea, have to watch it doesnt constitue cheating though! they will be watching!
  6. that aint going to help for sure! but even so, have you altered gloves techinque or anything?
  7. Im doing my first year as we speak, i cant really add to that of gibbon. some of it is hard to get your head round, everyone will have weak areas but its doable. It isnt what I would call a walk in the park, but it certainly isnt rocket science iether, same as gibbon, was tech cert or go for it, so i did. my tutors are brilliant, but i find the course information abit disjointed and hard to find bits sometimes, but I would recomend anyone whos been in the game with a keen interest to just go for it, youll get through if you want to.
  8. its o.k andy, i am getting used to this! Tony, I have absolutley no idea who you are, but if you post that kind of comment your going to get a reply! i take all you say on board, even if it is a little, mmmm whats the word im looking for? help here people? with regards to these symptoms, if you wish to drill it by all means I will gladly take you to it, but if there is one thing I do know, it is that it will be you that is suprised, and not me! I dont need you to tell me the VTA "procedure" of that you can be certain! X ray vision? i guess thats what you call insight, something you gain with time, and effort and a lot of darn hard graft, seeking these things out and studying the subject. not that it requires a great deal of skill to see such a defect and its internal workings. these forms dont happen without a reason, and I can assure you, there is only one reason these ribs exist, wether you believe in my capacity or not, I really couldnt care less, all i know is that I started this thread so that many of us interested in these defects may share and show eachother those we come across on our day to day business. its supposed to be fun, and interesting, not exposing eachothers flaws or appaling ettiquete and rigid conformity to "procedure"
  9. I know who you are! good job fella, bet you love it up there!
  10. that fungus looks to me to have emerged been attacked by slugs, then dessicated Chicken if I had to pin a label
  11. :thumbup:now thats a vet! cool pic sean
  12. this is worth bringing up here as I have experianced this myself lately, john, have you tennis elbow? i got it recently and managed to work out it was the change in grip caused by starting to wear gloves after 20 years without, i went through agony with it and when i worked out what i was doing different, i am glad to say all is right again and back to my old self. tennis/golfers elbow is something i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy, if you get it, try thinking about changes youve made to your methods/kit, going back sorted me right out.
  13. is that epping bart? some nasty stazi ears there mate! multiple inclusions, hard to quantify Time wise but certainly up for a loss of major limbs.
  14. Well it isnt easy from a photograph! an old pollard? hatfield? cause is an old stem loss, probably summmer drop as it isnt a deep wound, this has resulted in dysfunction deep into heartwood, and death of the cambium below the initial wound. dessication and enbrittlemnet of the heart is the cracks significant cause with stress. but the limb to the right is likely to pull that crack and split the whole tree apart, lightening the load is going to help no end. i might consider a brace sytem above the main trunk. I dont like those steel ties round trunks to avoid split/seperation of main trunk. Retrenchment program is advisable, though suspect its a low target zone? retrenchment to a more squatt form is the way to go, over a protracted period, and lightly as the tree looks to have little vascular support.
  15. LMAO, 100% likely! How on earth, why? would you doubt it? do you REALLY want to charge for a DETAILED assesment of this defect?
  16. dont you flippin start monkey! got enough trouble with this lot! arbs sarcy nit pickin wind up merchants!
  17. O.k so for those who DONT know! V.T.A is Visual Tree Assesment. an intial assesment of a trees condition and mechanical defects, for the evaluation of the saftey of trees, the pressence of defects signifying that further investigation is reqiured to elucidate hidden structural problems.
  18. lol why would I be so dumb as to believe for one minute that people on here dont know what VTA stands for? if i explain someone will pipe up about me giving unasked for lessons on basics! you are pulling my leg? right?
  19. dont even go there with the force flow iether!
  20. lol, are you boys being funny with me again! i think you know as well as I!
  21. the stresses are causing the tree to compensate for the defect, and causing the "pointy nosed rib" four ribs (the flutes) in this case, they spiral all the way up, its better in the flesh, the images being 2dimensional dont show it so good.
