Getting all my gear Loler tested next week, so will climb on it after it's been passed (hopefully). Couldn't afford a new one on top of all the other bits I need :-( Thanks for the responses guys, all usefull stuff

Just joined the club and bought a second hand one for 74 quid. Couple of questions for those who use them already. Do they operate better on certain ropes? Have I paid too much? Is the Spiderjack way better? Ant help/comments appreciated

Used to hold PTS but it expired a while ago, does anybody know how I go about getting it renewed? Seems to be plenty of work out there, but I think you need a sponsor, so as a freelance subby, how do I go about sorting this out? Any help appreciated, Chris

If it's just dead material, get the chest waders on and just drag it out. If they want the rhizomes removing, you have a job on your hands, as previously mentioned, chromes, sweat and a change of clothes would be needed. If it's a big reed bed, you could think about getting in a contractor to scoop out material from a specialy designed machine, check out Aquaclear for some ideas ;-) Spraying towards the end of the season when it is dying back will take chem into the rhizomes, but then your into licenses for spraying on watercourses depending on where the pond lies and repeat treatments will be necessary. Hope this helps

£80 a day on a self employed basis is what I charge, 30,31,32,38,39, chipper ticket, supply my own saws, ppe, climbing kit, fuel etc. And my day rate means a day, 6.5-7.5 hrs, if it's light enough and safe enough I work until the job is done.

Fdsc in Ecology and Conservation Management including a year of Tree and Woodland Management studied at Myerscough. Licensed bat worker for surveys/watching brief work. Done Tree Hazard Evaluation course, first aid, surveying experience. Own climbing kit (Loler passed), ground saws and PPE. Based in Cheshire. PM me for more info and quals. Can provide refs.

If I lived closer, I would offer my services. Give me a shout if you need any bat workers in future for bigger projects. I have CS upto 39 and have been a licensed Bat worker since 2007, volunteer since 2001. Loads of conservation experience and practical management work on trees for protected species projects. Hope you find someone.

Good advice Mark I have learned plenty on the CS courses, but once you are out there, it's a different kettle of fish. I appreciate why we need to do these certs, but one or two have just been box ticking exercises that give you a piece of paper to let you go out and really start learning in the field. And lets face it, they aren't cheap.

Industry standards are so subjective imo, I always feel it's best to do what looks best for the individual tree and its management, also do the best for the client depending on what their needs are Don't get me wrong gents, I would love to do all the tickets to keep clients/employers happy, but money and all that.

All my work is done to BS 3998 standards Born2trot, if there are other industry standards, I have never been asked to work to them? If I can get the two courses at the price you did them for, I will do them together, but I haven't found them at that price. Where did you do them?

It just doesn'e seem you get many employers asking for this ticket, but you do see em asking for 41. I would love to do 40 for the experience, but as everybody knows, these things are not cheap and it's cost me a fortune to get this far including all my kit, so if I don't need it, I aint gonna spend a fortune on doing it.

Thinking of next years tickets and have heard mixed views on this CS ticket. Is it worth me forking out for this, or should I go straight in for 41 from a career point of view? Done domestic, contract and other bits of jobs without any complaints. Was just wondering how everybody found this course and if they feel it was worth it. Cheers everyone

Thought I would ask on here as you would like to think second hand saws would be well looked after instead of taking a chance on flebay. As title says, I am after a 200T. If anybody knows of somebody selling one, keep me in mind. Cash waiting.
