  1. Would love to learn some basic carving techniques and was wondering if anybody knows any carvers in the Cheshire area who would be willing to take an apprentice on in exchange for some free labour? Alternatively, could anybody put me in contact with any carvers? I am based near Warrington. Thanks in advance, Chris.
  2. Thanks everyone, found somebody on my doorstep.
  3. Hi Dean, Having been in a similar position to yourself with regards to funds, I would suggest doing the NPTC chipper course, CS38 for aerial rescue and your Cat B&E (trailer towing) course if you are thinking of a groundsman job. Most employers will require these tickets as standard for groundy work. If you are thinking of becoming a fully qualified arborist, it is well worth doing a formal qualification in Arb to ND or HND level, along with CS32,39,40,41 and maybe UA tickets, as there is plenty of UA work out there. Other useful quals include, first aid at work, CSCS card, PA1/PA6, MEWP ticket, and maybe Cat C (HGV) license for driving larger arb vehicles. Hope this helps a bit and good luck. Chris.
  4. Anybody recommend a Loler inspector in Cheshire. Not got a massive amount of kit, just harness, 1 rope, ew karabs and prussiks. Also, what should I be paying ofr initial inspection?
  5. Cheers everyone, Very useful. As for the app, that's ace!!! Got my kit today, so am going to get practicing. Downloaded the assesment schedules too, so it's head in book time.
  6. CS 38 in a few weeks, just wondering which knots I should be practicing in advance to give me a bit of a head start. Any help appreciated. Cheers, Chris

  8. Thanks for the tips everyone. Got it booked in for next month, so it's head in the books time.
  9. Cheers Tom, I have some climbing experience and am good with ID which is apparently now part of the course, so was hoping to avoid losing a weeks annual, but I suppose it's worth doing properly, especially given the cost. Thanks again, Chris.
  10. Cheers Tom, I am in Cheshire mate. Looks like it's a week off work then.
  11. I need to get my 38 under my belt and was wondering if anybody knows of any course providers or trainers who can provide 38 training on individual days instead of doing it all in a week. I could do without booking a week off work to do the course. Any help appreciated. Cheers, Chris.
  12. What day rate?
  13. Hi there,

I am looking at doing my NPTC UA tickets to get into the surveying side of things and have seen on here that you are a course provider.

Could you give me some prices and dates for courses?

    Thanks in advance.

    Chris.

  14. Can anybody suggest a trainer/assesment venue for UA tickets in the North West? I am an Ecologist by trade, but have groundy tickets and want to get into surveying. Have done BS surveys and tree surveys for bats so have some experience. Any help appreciated. Cheers, Chris.
  15. Sorted :-)
  16. Anybody keep me busy on Monday next week? Own saw, ppe, travel, insurance. CS 30/31/32 PA1/6, Chipper ticket. Hard working, will travel. Based in Cheshire. Cheers.
  17. Try Shades of Green in Walton, Warrington. They run chipper courses and can put you in touch with the trainers/assesors for other tickets. The large tree ticket is a bit of a bugger unless you can provide the site/trees.
  18. Hi Sarah, Sent you a message yeaterday in response to your post for freelance groundies, did you receive it? If not, I will re send. Chris.
