Work a day with a swedish logger and you learn lots! I know we dont get massive trees, but the ones ive felled with back, side, quaterbacklean has never been a problem! Always get them down where I want.

I was wondering what the common Commercial Forest spieces were in Sweden and Britian too.

In NZ it is predominantly Radiata Pine,Douglas Fir and Euc Nitens(pulp),lol.

Felling a Heavy Side leaner. Personally I used to use,(In my logging days) a Split Level Backcut on trees like this,but it would then require wedging.

Apart from the carb another part to give fuel probs is the pick up filter in the fuel tank.If blocking up, it causes starving symptoms.

wow, That Howard Hitch looks interesting.How do you users rate it?.

I saw a hitch posted on here the other day, it was turned like a vt at the top then twisted (independently of the climbing line) then finished like a knut i think.

Anyway I cant find it now but we have been playing around with it and its really good, so... anyone know what its called and where I saw it? I dont even know if i've tied it right but I like it:thumbup:

The obvious advantage of the former is that it could make rescue easier, as a groundie could in theory, control the descent of the injured climber once a rescuer had attended to the person.

I see what ya mean,3 wraps + 3 wraps + a loop(or similar) tyed on the end of your rope. I mistakenly thought MB meant a seperate attachable and weighted monkeysfist.I have one of them,Ive never seen another Arbie use one. LOL

I've never used a throwline in a tree: I"ll make a monkey's fist and lob tha sucka.

yeah,I like them too.Like you MB, Im an ex Seaman(Rig Motorman) and Ive gotten to know what you can do with a monkeyfist. Though I have never seen another Arbie use one.......Are there any other users out there.?

For roping onto closer trees that are difficult to swing onto....

an open hook with the eye set at 90 degrees ,tied to the end of your climbing line,thrown over a limb and hooked back around the climbing rope tail is an easy way to pull yourself over.For longer distances Ive used a rope grab.

*(Pic 1) using a throwline aloft to advance your climb rope or to rope onto the next tree can sometimes be the best option.A fishing reel is a great tool for keeping it(throwline) in order. *(Pic2)Once the throwline is over the selected limb on the next tree,let it hang about a meter and get it swinging back and forth in line with you *(Pic3) When the throwball is swinging toward you give it a sharp tug and let the line go and it will "come to Daddy".Then double rope or both ends across. This method is easy and fun to practice on the ground.Thanks to G Beranek and "Working Climber CD"

If it is still running rich after a carb kit then look at the air filter for restriction.The carb high and low speed mixture adjustment settings(screws) may require retuning.By the way,its not overly oily is it,as in too much two stroke oil? Somtimes the spark arrester guaze in the muffler carbons up as well,lol
