I got roped into doing some Lineman work over the Xmas period. In NZ one of the prerequisites to becoming a HV Utilities Arbie is that you must first qualify as a HV Lineman up to E1 level, which I had previously done.
This has lead to a career change and I am now working full time as a Lineman, which is why I havent been active on the forum this year...enough about me,sorry for the hijack, and all the best wishes to all you Arborists.

A couple of beauties there David. Its great to hear that they will be given their space and a tidy.

Nice work Rupe and a great thread. Were all looking forward to the next one.My arms ache looking at the pics, lol.

Thanks! And u'r welcome. If there's any other questions about SRT I be glad to help. Have spent a couple of ours doing it. Now I'm learning to climb the "arb way".
Were you a rigger,or similar?
-
Great pics as usual Dave.Do youse use before & after pics for work history records? And did you update the climber to the Howard Hitch?

what does the second little prussic do?
haha,I dont really know. This is an off the shelf prussic. At a guess Id say it might be a bit of a keeper to keep things(ring & prussic) set.

Thanks for posting Mike,I was just curious about why the tree got the death sentence?

the sirius looks a good concept, very nice but after a more conventional design. thanks bob.
Thanks
You could get a conventional(non adjustable) to start and then add on a prussic/ring if required later. They are available seperately or can be made.Hope that is what you meant.

well if its any consolation to anyone its been a lot wetter than the last few summers in Wellington this year.Access into reserves and sportsgrounds has been minimal and weeks worth of brash piles are waiting to be mulched someday.
-
And how is the new TWM crew working out for you.
-
forestry ladders are good too,lol.
-
Im pretty convinced now that a uni on a choked single line would some work through.Ill keep it in my kit.
-
You could keep the lockjack and get a spiderjack and timberjack.
-
hmmmm the unicender. Im still not totally convinced by it tbh. Its an awesome tool for srt work with ability to ascend/descend but i find climbing the whole tree on srt a bit weird as im so used to Dbrt. I dont like the uni in Dbrt mode as i prfer my vt/hitchclimber too much. If the work is mostly up/down then srt with the uni would be ideal. pm Jonno as he uses it everday(i think) to get more details. The newer version does address some of the problems though as its got a pulley to guide the rope in better and it traps the rope better. The uni is hard to put into words!
We should invite him to post an instructional video, hint hint.

Anyone else get probs using the Lj on wet rope? i go back to a knut with hitch climber when my rope soked.
yeah it does get a bit jerky in the wet, but its never stopped me using it yet.
-
you could use your hitch and set it up like the F8 revolver way, it works surprisingly well.
Yeah thanks Drew,I have had a couple of rec climbs using the F8/revolver,that I learnt off Kevin Binghams post, but havent progressed to using it in a work situation yet.Still practicing.
Im now considering a unicender for the crew. How do you rate it.

If you are after a roll you could try to PM Ropey, then maybe you could pay by credit card.
If you are after eye to eyes,Tree Climbing Tools and Accessories.
Hope that helps.
