  1. I reckon i have the best of both worlds with my user name.
  2. I am purely interested in what other councils charge for official road closures, including alternative rights of way, public notifications and signage etc etc. I have also blocked the road with a landy and some cones on many occasion, although this is strictly illegal.
  3. Hahaha briliant. Theres always someone who has taken too many naughties and will dance to ANYTHING with a loud beat. Even bettter when other drop their inhibitions and join in too!! Great vid!
  4. Just out of interest, How much do the council charge for a road closure in your area. Its £810 down here.
  5. Looks like post-harvester to me. They have to leave 10% down here, which is mostly made of brash etc. Not sure about leaving standing habitat, but it could well be the same.
  6. Wow, beautiful place. Looks like a nice little show.
  7. I very very very rarely accept tea or coffe from a customer. i am there to work, not drink tea.

Sorry to hear that Reg, that sounds very sore, although its reassuring that accidents happen to the best of us too!
  9. Average outside moisture in the air in uk is 20%, even in a barn etc. In a house it is around 10-15% depending on central heating etc, age of house.. To put oak flooring down over under floor heating it is usually kilned to 6% MC, but generally swells a tiny bit, as eventhen the MC of the air around is up around 8-12%. I reckon that anywhere around 20-25% should be acceptable for logs.
  10. Stunnig view in that second pic Tom.
  11. I was speaking to one of the pioneers of the whole thing recently (someone who was with the first teams who 'found out' about it) and he reckons this has been around for a long time, but we are only just noticing it. I wonder.
  12. you'll never keep the oil in, and you'll never keep the water out... Don tbuy a land rover if you are worried about mpg. I get around 20 mpg, but have oversize tyres and a roofrack though. Defenders do have 2 common rot spots, as mentioned around the bulkhead and rear crossmember, although the yaer makes a difference- k reg were bad for bulkheads for example. That said, a looked after model willl carry on for years without rot. They are very very easy to work on., and very cheap on parts. They are like a big meccano set, and the engine you are after is about as basic and bombproof as they come. Personaly i wouldnt waste my money on one, as they are very inefficient and gutless. The 200/ 30 tdi's are both superb. When looking at older ones, then if it is a hi-cap it will have almost certainly had a hard life, albeit a well looked after life. Damage and rot to the chassis are obvious things to look for. Play in the steering box. excessive slack in the transmision, which could be as simple as a propshaft u-j. I pay about £8 for these, and fit them myself in under an hour. there is no such thing as a "cheap" landy. If you think you are getting a mega bargain, there is probably a reason or two:sneaky2: If its your first one, i strongly advise taking someone along who knows land rovers- you learn to recognise a problem from normal quirks particular to your vehicle. Oh- and never forget- if you buy a defender, you are basically buying a glorified tractor, with about as many refinements:lol:

How many of you guys use cranes that have their own insurance? We have a company down here that have their own, but a few others which all insist you have the insurance for them!
  16. I dont think anyone is picking on anyone. A memebr has advertised some 200ts for sale. All we ask for is more detail or pics, which is not unreasonable, and its gone from there. If one isnt prepared to take questions etc and fault finding then one shouldnt post on a forum.

Love that vid Reg. Especially all the alarms going off at 5.03!lol
  18. I have been getting used veg oil for free for ages now. Its great, and yes, I DO use it on the 4' bar, and the alaskan mill, and havent had ANY problems.
  19. Rookery- we need pics or no one will be interested. And details too. Condition, age, etc etc.
  20. TBH i cannot remember, it was 14 years ago. It was under £300 though i think. I did hear that funding was stopped last year though, and that courses had shot up in price as a result.
