Is anyone looking for a dog? 1 year old Staffie needs a new home, his owners have had to move and are unable to keep a dog in their new place so looking for a loving home for their boy. He is currently in Felixstowe living with another dog, who is not happy having to share attention and treats with this newcomer! If you are interested or know someone who is please get in touch. No it doesn't look like OPM, unless it is a very early stage of it, but never heard of them creating nests in curled up leaves before... correct me if I'm wrong?

Hi, I have been back to the site with the affected Oak trees, here is some more info... - lower foliage is dying up to about 4-5 ft high - all younger trees below this height are dead - leaves are turning black and curling up - there is an insect/spider making nests/webs in the curled up leaves (leaves are green or black), some on closer inspection have a lot of tiny black dots/insects in them - the higher branches look healthy as do the stems - there is a blueish coloured lichen on the trees but I don't think this is related Can anyone shed any light on this? I have some pics which I will post they are not very good quality unfortunately. Thanks, Louisa

Thanks for the suggestion Martyn. SOD doesn't affect the Oak species growing in the UK, it is an American term for P.ramorum. I thought as it is such a distinct pattern of dieback someone might know something? I will have a proper look next time I'm there to see if there are any other symptoms. Louisa

Recently noticed that on several Oak trees all the lower branches are dead, they are growing on a heathland/wooded area in Suffolk. Can anyone suggest what the cause might be, the higher branches look healthy with a distinct ring of lower dead branches, was in a hurry the other day so didn't look too closely to notice anything further. I haven't read the article in the original post but if it is the general consensus that trees should be surveyed then shouldn't the councils or highways do their stock? I reported a hanger about 3 - 4 years ago to the council, it is a big branch over a country road and one day it is going to come crashing down, it is vertical and the 'fork' of it is caught on a lower branch. The council really were not intersted and have done nothing about it, since moving I do not use this road so much but it is still there...

Last time we travelled a distance to a job we stopped at a Travel Inn, it was about 11pm, we were tired, grumpy and probably looked a real mess. We warned the girl behind the desk that we would be bringing in a few chainsaws before she thought she'd fallen into a horror movie! They don't mind at all, just don't leave them in a vehicle as it is an easy target!

You can't tar them all ith the same brush! I agree the Lithuanians are really good workers, but the younger English aren't all lazy, we only emply grafters and most of them are young English (nothing against any other nationality but they haven't applied for a job with us). The army now encourage leavers to go into tree surgery, try employing some of them, they are really hard workers and never complain.

Still snowing in Suffolk and the wind is starting to get up, lucky we have 4x4s really :-) Bomag, just seen your dog in the pic, the little terrier looks exactly like ours (all exceot ours has a black nose), we got her from the RSPCA who told us she was a jr x Border terrier x whippet. Do you know what your dogs breed is?
