  1. was kinda anoyed at some of the coments about the younger generation but to be honest i have to agree. most of my generation are idle and incompetent. especialy the younger ones. but i put this down to the schooling nowadays when you go through school it is channeling you to go to uni (even if your not academicaly capable). there is no work ethic (i was always taught to pay my way) but at school they always are like take a loan out pay it off later. iff not leave school sign on. youngsters are taught this in built dependancy on the nanny state to give them everything on a plate. at 19 ive been working for about 3years full time (tree surgery then laterly forestry) but before that i always did odd jobs starting off doin grass cutting for 3quid for the next door neighbour. thanks to this i now have a reasonable customer base that i do work for self employed on top of my regular job. not looking for praise but it is do-able there are those younger ones out there that work all the hours god sends. although i admit that they are few and far between. sorry for the rant but i think it is the modern schooling and molecodeling that is to blame for so many spinless youths not the youngsters them selves.
  2. never realised there was a internal arbtalk search function usefull! will use a lot in future!

  5. yeah tried that but was more looking for one that people have specificaly tried on firewood. doesent seem to be one designed specificaly for wood so wondered if anyone out there uses one and could recomend a specific model etc. dont want to waste money pointlessly buying one that wont work or do what i want.
  6. anyone know of a good moisture meter make, price, usability etc.
  7. thanks all saw got new hd air filter on well worth it! got a new high flow rate oil pump fitted on paper it only gives 25% more output but realy makes all the difference much better. just to note sent stihl a realy annoyed email they reimbursed the money i had spent on the parts and had them fitted by my local dealer and gave me a new chain to compensate me for the inconvenience. always worth complaining!
  8. well said! brilliant forestry tractors!
  9. i find haix tibbet forrest are brilliant but they are better suited for groundsmen they are a bit cumbersome for climbing my mate has got some of the arbortec ones at apf and is well chuffed with them but not sure how hard wearing theyl be.
  10. ive found them good reliability but i only use them to back up what i suspected. i should also point out ive only done them from leaf samples not bark etc. more a question for the manufacturers (they are very helpful give them a ring 01904 462600). how to use: Using the test
  11. yeah somthing like that is what i saw at apf. but it curled up and around the side of the side plate so that fumes were chucked out the back near the rear handle. will have a look on arborist site. ive found the people with the know how to build them (mainly for motorbikes) but am strugling to work out dimensions. there is a bit of info out there to work it out on the dimensions from: BMEP, exhaust port dimensions, angle, port open angles on crank, bore, stroke...................etc but its a bit beyond my GCSE Maths and Physics.
  12. thanks guys all been great help parts on order will inform of improvement!

  15. i have an old husqvana 346xp and im wondering if there is anyone out there with the know how to make a tuned exhast expansion chamber. saw a lad at the apf running one on a 357xp i dont use the saw anymore realy and just wanted to have a play arround any hotsaw info will be gratefully recieved i know generaly people modify the bigger saws but this is the only one i dont use daily anymore. cos im assuming any mods will probably invalidate its health and safety compliance.
  16. appologies people prices on here arnt right as its an old review
  17. a lot more in depth info available here Removable boot and tyre studs stop the sliding - 1/29/2010 - Farmers Weekly how do we order/contact info?
  18. if anyone out there is reading these posts and thinking where i work aint safe then change jobs. i did and it was the best decision i ever made. not all employers are idiots i moved to a job for less money where you can do everything the safe way and if you dont you get a telling off. thats the way it should be. its worth a lot more than money to be able to enjoy your job and not thinking when the next accident will be.
  19. Buy Tractor, Expand Bussiness and work work work

  23. yeah thats the case with the ms660. the us is 0.1 hp less than the uk version. odd that its a different way around with the husqvanas especialy if its to do with the H&S regs youd have thaught that they all would have more hp in us.
  24. cheers mate great help will be at my dealer tomorrow so will ask them about parts
  25. thanks mate yeah had noticed its inaility to filter air will be ordering upgrade tomorrow! intereresting air filter video link below. i found it interesting how husqvanas seem to filter a lot more before the air gets to the filter! i know my 357xp needs cleaning far less often than my works ms 260.
