If anyone needs Geographic Information Systems help, advice or work doing for woodland managment plans or EIA Here is some examples of work that i have been doing First image is a 1:10000 OS land line map of a raised bog that has been planted as foresrty. Is has a arial photo georeferenced over layed with habitat types and areas shaded in with a key, scale bar and north arrow Second Image is of a digital terain model DTM of the same bog with the same habitat areas from the first image and 3D scots pine. I use ARC veiw to produce these models and can do video fly through of sites for presentations Third image is a 3D contour model elevation of the same bog created using GPS points from field survaying. The contour model has georeferenced arial photo over layed and has been set at 5 times exageration to show the raised middle of the bog I am based in the west of scotland please feel free to PM I also do deer control if anyone is interested thanks

Funny how they are doing this at the hight of the finacial crisis when people are losing thier jobs all over. It is just another tax and a away to justify thier jobs. How are you going justify to a judge not felling a dangerous tree that has fallen and killed someone because over night you are no longer qualified to do the work and need to go on a refresher along with every body else in the country. God forbid if it did happen the land owner would be in the crap you might be in it aswell but NPTC ? they would be the real people to blame

I posted this on the thread "wet wood" when i lived in Norway we use to pack firewood in nets on Euro pallets using a steel frame that fitted over the pallet and stretched the net open. It was a realy good system for storing and drying firewood the pallet alows air to pass under the wood so it drys from all sides To keep it dry we stacked them 3 high in a square of nine palletswith air space in between in a clearing in the wood next to the farm. Then we over layed corrigated roffing tin on top to keep the rain off and then we droped some big logs on top to stop the tins blowing off. Becuase it was in a clearing the wind did not blow rain in from the side because it was quite sheltered. The system work well over thier however the stacks were covered in snow for 6 months of the year so i dont know how well it would work well over heer. you can get this system from these people http://www.storesacksystems.co.uk/products.html I use 3m vented bulk bags they are from http://www.sgbaker.co.uk/ they are realy good and i have no mouldy logs. I can stack them 3 high on pallets it increase air flow. I am fortunate that i have a dutch barn to store my bags in though which is half the battle

Come to think of it i am not sure if it was aspen fuel but it was definatly a pre mixed bio 2 stroke fuel that i use out in Norway. But i think it was aspen fuel but don't quote me on that

I used aspen 2 stroke fuel in Norway, they sell the stuff in 25l drums. It was realy pleasent and made my crave a good chippy because it uses veg oil lubricants instead of mineral oil. So you ended the day smelling like a chip shop and no head aches it was only slightly more expensive than normal petrol out thier. Also i think it was part of norwegian environmental law that you had to use the stuff but i am not sure. Does anyone have a source for it in scotland ?

lol yeah that picture that you posted in the thread is basicaly exactly the system that we used and i was trying to describe I lived between on a farm in a village called Singsås neer Støren maby about 50km from Trondheim I realy miss it out thier I now live on a farm neer craigie hill quarry Kilmarnock i will let you know about the IBC cages my mate is manager of the paintball center

Oh and the Scottish Paintball Centre has a whole load of those IBC frames dumped in the dyke back that they removed from the big square tanks. they use the tanks as baricades

I was reading the MF 290's manual and the pump out put is only 8 gallons per min at 2000 revs well i don't rum the tractor at that speed because the it is hard on the tractor and hard on the wallet. I think that a hi output pump like a 16 gallon min + pump would speed up the ram and still allow the the tractor on tickover. I think i will attach the splitter to a tractor with a higher oil output to see if it does speed up the ram. If it dose then i will get a PTO pump. I will have a go at clamping the wood tomorrow in the splitter when i am cutting it up. It's a sweet idea Thanks

Yeah we were going to build it that way but with the weight of the beam and the ram would have been to much to have hanging out the back. It would have been a hassel to strengthen the whole design to take the weight. That is why we made go across the back of the tractor. the down side is that the wood can pile up underneath the back of the tractor but it is a small price to pay. The up side of the the design is that we attached a tow hitch in the centre of the beam so that we can tow our trailor behind the log splitter to a job.

Yeah i know the pto pump is also to improve on efficency so i can run the tractor on tickover and save fuel. i also put a self returning spool valve on so if you let go the ram stops. I have seen alot of home built machines that have locking spool valves on them and in my opinion that is quite dangerous as the ram will keep on chopping your arm off even if you let go of the valve.

Hi Guys thought you might be interested in having alook at my home built log splitter. My dad and i built it from an old bail spike frame and an 8" H-Iron girder. The ram if off an old digger and the rest of the steel was what we had around the farm. It will split 21/2 ft thick rings of any diamiter and it can be raised an lowered on the 3 point linkage to make it easyer to lift big rings on to it. It is a tad on the slow side because it runs off the tractor spool valves. But i am planning to fit a PTO pump and resivoir to the splitter to speed things up. Incidently if anyone has an old pto pump knocking about and are willing to part with it then give me a shout.
