  1. I have a 150, which is getting on for 12 years old. however it still does a great job. However, a few days ago one of the flywheel belts broke and some had slipped off. I then realised the nut and spacer had fallen off end of the flywheel (hopper end), it was de-threaded as was the shaft protruding between the bearings. Shaking the flywheel is showing about 3mm play in the belt wheel at the end, which explains the belts slipping off/breaking. I had changed the two smaller bearings only 6 months ago, it also looks as though the flywheel shaft has worn smaller than the inner dimensions of the bearings-does this tend to happen? I'm guessing this maybe new bearings and flywheel time-Is this a mega bucks job? Any guidance much appreciated
  2. Ok, thanks for the info guys. Took the head off today and sure enough piston is well and truly scored including the rings had welded themselves into recess for about an inch around the exhuast side of the piston. Pot also has scoring and metal fragments welded into the side. Something tells me this is gonna cost me.....
  3. I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a clue on this one. My ms660 has done me proud for the last 3 years (just fine on friday!), however I lent it to my bro and his team today and It's come back dead! They said it just conked out chogging up a few hours into the day. First thing I noticed was a much stronger mix than I usually use in it, so I wondered whether they had clogged the carb. So checked plug was ok and put some fuel straight into the chamber-still didn't fire. Dried everything off and tried again and fuel does seem to be getting into the chamber and wetting the plug, but it just won't fire. (Plug is def. sparking) Any ideas? Can a rich mix (looked more like a 25:1 mix) really do damage? Any help much appreciated guys.
  4. Poor bloke, Do you know what caused him to fall? I seem to remember the first few branches sloping downwards making them dodgy anchor points, and wrapping around the main stem on a redwood doesn't get you too far! I remember taking it very easy as I pulled up to that first branch, keeping the angle to as near vertical as poss.
  5. Back at college, a few of us went down to the New Forest to do some stealth recon. climbs on the redwoods along tall tree avenue. Not sure of the height but it made the mature oaks around it look tiny. At the top of the highest one not only did we find the most amazing view, but an old video box with paper and a pencil in it to leave a message and name!! This was 2001, wonder if it's still there?!
  6. Just in case you are still making up your mind! I had a mk3, spot on. Wee bit sluggish but reliable, moved onto mk4 now which is a treat with the turbo and is just that bit more refined. Love'em, gonna get mine converted to a tipper soon.
  7. I shouldn't have strayed, lesson learnt! Cheers for the advice guys....
  8. Yeah I don't doubt this topic has been raised, but I couldn't find it, thanks for heads up though! A freelander you say, new shape?!
  9. Ok, My trusty MS200T has done its time and is now getting a little 'long in the tooth'. I,ve used 200's with no complaints for the last 8 years now, however the 192TC has caught my eye, sounds great for the small stuff but how does it do in the chogging arena? Is the grass greener!! Opinions much appreciated.
  10. I shot up my mother n laws tree and I liked it... the taste of of her cherry err...chap stick... u guys know that one right?
  11. My brother managed to twist his in his sleep(leave it!), woke up in agony, when he got to hospital he had to have it removed due to blood supply being cut off. Got to say im a pants man myself, give the fella's some support!
  12. I worked in oz for 6 months, big gums are the best for take downs! It Really is worth doing a course where you will get safety and technique drummed into you. My 6 months out your way (Melbourne), was part of my 2 year course based in the UK. All I would say is if you are not totally confident with where the bit you are cutting off is going to land, improve your position and do it in smaller pieces/hand helds, or get the lowering rope out. Ive got 8 years under my belt now and all my near misses were in the early years trying to go too big- it's not worth the small amount of time you save.
  13. Once the nose is in few inches, i'll crank her up to full throttle. Any excuse for a bore cut, what a wasted opportunity!
  14. http://www.duraphone.co.uk/ I've got one of these bad boys. like a jcb phone but with the camera/mp3-4 player/record phone calls, etc... so far so good, although texting isn't up to nokias standards.
