  1. Bump Been thinking this myself of late... Does anyone know if you can get a nylon one that would fit the dyneema version or due to size restrictions would it not be strong enough? Could it/would it be a problem? Cos if the dyneema kit snaps on your 'jack if dynamically shock loaded in fall it could be game over. Or am I thinking to much into it & its all been sorted at design stage by art? Thanks in advance for your thoughts & replies, Conrad
  2. Fantastic Mr Fox! (if that hasn't been said already) Fair play to a good attitude from all involved:thumbup: & it's certainly made for good reading...... over 16,000 views!!!!!! Wow:biggrin: Conrad
  3. I bought both, money well spent(less than a pint each). No complaints, they've both been well done/presented. Fungi one can take a few secs to load so can frustrate at those times you've got your rushing head on - or dazzling a customer with your new found fungi knowledge (lol!) One thing I would say is everyone I've shown em to, both in & out of the industry(apart from arbtalkers) haven't known they are out there, but have liked what they've seen. So you'd definitely benefit from any sort of advertising. Conrad
  4. I don't think you do toooo bad !!! Mines just come back from holiday to carlsberg HQ...... splendid! oh, & must say sorry Graeme if you're actually 30's/40's & just had a big paper round
  5. I got to this in the evening (thanks to a good boss!). Inspiring for all the full on BIG tree work reasons... To give you all a little flavour about the man himself; good, easy going aussie laid back style, delivered with obvious knowledge but with a lack of ego & a fine dry sense of humour. Definitely got both feet in the cutter/climber camp, but had a nice touch at the end on a positive note when he acknowledged there were both arbs & consultants in the same hall, & we could all benefit by working together more than we do at times... Also he had some vids on of his work in the last year or 2, & more jobs in the pipeline that gave him a buzz. Inspiring thing was to see him is to realise he's got to be 50+ & still going strong. A Solid man :-) Conrad
  6. @ David - you're not wrong there! If carlsberg did jobs... So yes, good to be surfing the tide of change in the industry, & it's great it's getting put "out there" ; information being empowering & all that. People within our industry are the receptive ones, it's the "I like trees - but..." general public thats going to take a little working on.
  7. Worked for me, thanks for posting.
  8. Outrageous. Wrapping his house in cling film should do the trick.
  9. Like it. Well done for posting I reckon. My 2penneth for what its worth, is that we've got to mutate & survive. If the spec was always "if in doubt - deck it " alot of us would be scratching about for work at some point. I thoroughly enjoyed my big take down era, & no doubt there'll always be more to come, when we let em grow enough. So, surely the/our job has got to be about keeping em up? We are the ones that people ask for advice, "you're the expert", is often said to folk on here (I hope)... I met a man this week who's spent the last 20+ years "topping" veteran lapsed pollarded beech trees on a sssi. Imagine the flak he's had to put up with "!" But the results speak for themselves; retrenching = regrowth = live longer (thumbs-up! with shades on) P.s. leave all bits of growth & bud on that you can, gives em a fighting chance then, from what i've seen. All the best, Conrad
  10. Treequip - I've still got your old bandit! It's done us proud, it just won't die. Good - un thanks. Looks a bit "vintage" mind, but some people even appreciate it's longevity & ease of fixing. Yeah proper bombproof they are, & only ever clogged up on conifer in the pouring rain.
  11. Hi, I did PTI there 2 years ago. Enjoyed it. Took a few books of recommended list but didnt use em. Lots of photocopied handouts & a workbook that you go through in detail with the instructor/assessor - so if your unsure you can ask about anything. Although it is more of a refresher course with a test at the end than a 3 day cram. The fungi part is an open book exercise - so you can take your own fungi id book or just use the ones provided during the test ... which takes the pressure off nicely. Oh & a proper good walkabout through some big old beechwoods nearby. Hope this helps & go fer it!
