  1. Also, Horse Radish, Black Currant leaves and even young Oak leaves can all be used to maintain some crunchiness apparently..
  2. This is what I've used before;- Making Sauerkraut | Wild Fermentation :: Wild Fermentation WWW.WILDFERMENTATION.COM Resources for fermenting a vast range of nutritious and delicious live-culture foods and drinks.
  3. Did you mean pickled with vinegar or fermented, then effectively self-pickled, i.e. Sauerkraut? I've made quite a lot of the latter over the years, it's great stuff, very healthy too. You basically just soak the cabbage in salty water then leave it to do its thing for a few weeks. I can dig out a recipe if you're interested.
  4. Great ideas, both. Morocco and similar countries would do well to promote themselves on that front.
  5. Beautiful glasshouse, very Victorian. Is it original?
  6. Yet another angle is that we make loads of not so useful things from oil. They quickly break or become obsolete and then end up being burnt anyway, or dumped in the ground or sea to pollute the environment for countless generations to come. (Or in our case, in the UK; we pay other countries like China to make the crap. So we can then say "it's not us governor")
  7. You wrong'un I imagine that the problem with such niche tastes is that you quickly run out of source material.
  8. I believe plans are afoot to mount sails on some cargo ships to help reduce fuel consumption. I saw an article about it somewhere.
  9. She'd be a strong contender in the "Who's your favourite female MP" thread.
  10. But still; she'd be preferable to a nation wrecking, environment wrecking, ultra egoist, lying nut job.
  11. How about using repurposed aluminium sheeting for the shower walls? E.g. stuff from an old caravan if anyone nearby is scrapping one. There was someone on here recently enquiring about breaking a caravan for scrap and parts.
  12. This guy has got the right idea. It's all about efficiency. Energy efficiency guru Amory Lovins: ‘It’s the largest, cheapest, safest, cleanest way to address the crisis’ | Energy efficiency | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM One of the leading advocates of energy conservation explains why this could be a turning point for climate economics

    EHIC Card

For anyone interested; today is the last day to apply for an EHIC card which would entitle you to free state medical care in EU countries for 5 years, post-Brexit. If you already have one, there is no harm renewing it or applying for a new one. This means you won't have to pay insurance on EU holidays for 5 years. Applying for healthcare cover abroad (GHIC and EHIC) - NHS WWW.NHS.UK Find out if you’re eligible to apply for a new UK EHIC or UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).
  14. I think it would probably be better with the Tories. We haven't really got a true Conservative government at the moment; we've got a Boris Johnson and his little friends and cronies government.
  15. Aye, there was certainly no shortage of cigarettes. Cheap too, so a real treat when I used to indulge.
  16. That used to be one of great things about Eastern European countries;- hardly any fatties to be seen as there were no Macdonald's, (and barely any other fast food joints or convenience/processed foods available). I went to Ljubljana, Slovenia, once, it was a jaw dropping experience. All the women were like models. [emoji3]
  17. I've heard people being told that they need to go back into the centre of Kyiv, (or some other besieged city), to get the biometric checks done, having already struggled to get out of the city to relative safety. Ukrainians on way to UK hit paperwork dead-end in Calais WWW.BBC.CO.UK "No visa for at least another week," said Misha, simply. "No-one can help us in Calais."
  18. Good man. Respect where respect is due. Hopefully they can navigate the tangled bureaucracy if they do ever need to take you up on the offer.
  19. Old Jimmy Krankie was on the radio at lunchtime today actually. I think she was chatting some sense about the Ukrainian situation and the ensuing refugee crisis. We've only accepted a meer 50 of the 1.5 or so million so far. Confusion and excessive bureaucracy in the visa process are impeding things. Not very good really is it? The rest of Europe are just accepting 10s or 100s of thousands of people as they're clearly in desperate need. World at One - 07/03/2022 - BBC Sounds WWW.BBC.CO.UK Forty-five minutes of news, analysis and comment, with Sarah Montague
  20. Ah right, ok. Thanks. I wasn't aware that English was a racial type. England in itself is a multiracial country these days anyway, I'm sure Scotland must be similar.
  21. Racist, how so? I'm just curious as I don't live in Scotland so have no first hand experience.
