Right. We have checked plugs. It's not them. It is fuel starvation from somewhere. There was a fair amount of air in the fuel system so I need to establish where that is coming from. Bled the air from system and she started like never before. See again in morning I guess. Will make sure I go check a good while before littleun is due at school though. Many thanks to Tommer. You are a star.

If these hoses allow air to get in. Would they not let diesel out? There isn't any diesel leaks.

Is your battery light glowing dimly on the dashboard whilst driving? Does it go out when the squealing stops?

Battery and alternator are new within last month. Could it be air in the fuel system? Would it be worth cracking off an injector and turning it over?

Yeah I may need to ring you 2moro then. Have a second fully charged battery but don't know where you mean as to hold it on to???? Would it be easy to just replace heater plugs, fuses, relays etc??

Just had a new alternator fitted and also got a new battery. Belt is tight as it should be but it does sound like there is a canary under the bonnet (top pulley bearing maybe)

Unfortunately not, still takes the time to fire but just doesnt make the battery flat whilst doing it. Next???? hahaha:001_tt2:

sorry, when I say cold starting, I mean when its been switched off for ages. Has had this problem for months but seems to be getting worse. Dropped past -4 the other night but has been averaging about 1 degree.

My 300tdi takes ages to start from cold. So much so that I have had to give up and charge battery twice. Can anyone help? It does eventually fire and then drives lovely after so I am assuming lift pump, injectors etc etc are ok. Heater plug lights and goes out making a click after a while as it should.

Get some base layer long johns underneath your type c's and you will soon be warm. Easy for me to say sat at home sorting out quotes. Haha.

@tommer. I meant all of the above. Not the puff of smoke. Te same starting trouble. Whereby today I have flattened the battery trying to turn it over. Not good.

It was either this or being a pro footballer. Couldnt be doing with all that money and flash cars and photos in paper with supermodels. So chopping trees it was.
