  1. that was massively ballsy. What made you do this, why not dismantle? Quote too low?
  2. On more than one occasion, we've had "of course, I could have done this myself, but I just didn't feel up to it" - what a 60ft dismantle of a poplar over your conservatory? mmmmmmmmmmmmm..............
  3. Will, I'm doing it with another guy called Mark from another company (based in Shaftsbury) and we will be travelling up togther (to save fuel) to Westernbirt from September, so if you sign up for that one, come and join us, it'll make fuel cheaper and they'll be 3 of us locally who can cheat...... no, I mean, help each other out!
  4. when the lead climber is out on a limb during a re-shape, "how is he doing that, is he just balancing, isn't that dangerous?".................... Are you stupid, can you not see the rope, do you think we are that mad!
  5. there are two Acer Tree Surgeons, one in Bristol and he has just folded the business its his van, apparently for sale for 10k
  6. Setting it myself and have done a deal with a top hotel, down here in the South West. Amthrowing alot of money at it but will be on BBC national breakfast news soon. Check my website out (re-doing the home page) but gives you an idea. http://www.thegreatbigtreeclimbing.co.uk If you want a chat by all means call............. 07875750907
  7. Hey Sam, good to hear from you, big man. Don't really work around Bristol area, but will ask around about accom in the local area. Who you working for at the mo? Also if you fancy a trial (paid) day with us then let me know. Nick
  8. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with massive overheads. When I had the vehicles vandalised during the school holidyas in Easter I nearly through my hat in. Sometimes I wonder what the hell I'm doing. Big risk, big stress, big overheads, small profit - am I mad? (I still love it though). Unfortunately, even though its not really waste, the line is that you are carrying it while it is. So you can get fined for carrying it without a liscence. Worth having one if you don't.
  9. Thinking about applying although we are quite a young company and although expanding still ony 4 of us full timers. Is it worth the hassle? What doors does it open in terms of contracts etc etc?

Impressive site. We're a small team of 3 expanding to 4 employees soon. I want to go for the AA contractor soon. Is it worth the hassle and cost, what doors does it open in terms of contracts?
  11. Phil was awesome, real shame he went North - but there you go... Ivan - good mate but dear oh dear waht a stinky arse.... Apparently he is now well known in Surrey for it, too
  12. Good old Downlands, yes, Charlie has been with me for nearly a year and I used to work for John a couple of years ago too!
  13. Looking for a 1yr experienced climber to work in a small but busy and expanding team on mainly domestic work. So need to be keen on tree care aable or willing to learn how to do prpoer re-shapes, re-balances etc and confident to climb very big trees and perform rigging ops etc. Pay £300 - £400 dependent on experience. Check out http://www.acertreesurgeons.co.uk for info on company.
  14. dudes, surely everyone has a story about all 4 x 4s. I've heard terrible stories of Landrovers, Mitsus, Nissans, the lot. As an owner of a 04 plate Navara, I'm well impressed - it was awesome in a bogging job we did last December and even had to rescue a booged in Landy and Mitsu. Never let me doen, pulls like a trooper and I have it serviced at a 4x 4 specialist (not a dealer coz they haven't got a clue about looking after 4x4s).
  15. chis, I have a Navara which I'm looking to sell with a 5 tonne winch on the front, BFG tyres and Ivor williams back. I think its ace, but i need a 4 x 4 tipper - want to swap?
  16. We have been using Kong ascenders which my line came out of some time back and I fell only 5 ft, thank fully. I questioned Fujikura about their application and they got out the Lyon use guide to show me. We were using them correctly. Earlier this year one of my climbers got them out and his line nearly popped out, he noticed 20 ft up and luckily side stropped him self to a limb just in time. We will never use them again - not recommended........

    4X4 Tippers

thanks Pete, is there any point in a double cab, or does that loose too much chipping space?

    4X4 Tippers

(Just registered.....)I'm going shopping too and after reading all of the posts, I'm plumping for a Landy 130. Do they take 3 people in the cab? Also, anyone rate the Santana equivalent?
