  1. 57 friends hmm i have a bit of catching up to do there LOL.

  2. Yes i have some coppice woods and am getting more all the time but not good quality as we have deer and rabbit problem. If your gamekeepers are like mine they swipe over everything last week he went swiping and ran over a large ash sapling and knocked the oil filter off and lost all the oil and i only changed the oil and filter two weeks before.

  3. Ihave been beating most of the week last one tomoz. Got my new tractor well new to me LOL. I am still felling spruce. then i am going thinning.this will interest you the plantation was poplar and they all fell in 87 gales, replanted in 89 mixed broadleaves and never been thinned not even cleared of elder and bramble. the agent said it is a rubbish wood but it is a lovely wood at least the owner likes it as well. most of the plantations were planted in the 70s and have still got tubes on and the bark is soft underneath. but it is to much to do for one man. your holiday sounds cool?

  4. Hi ben the grab is ace i dont know how i worked without one. Having a bad week the rain is messing up the grass cutting and it is the big event this weekend the exits are all mud i think cars will be getting stuck i better wash the tractor tomoz LOL.

  5. It is all down to money. the estate where i work used to have six woodmen now there is one me and all the costs have to be kept low as they wont spend money on woodlands. They just rely on grants it is a shame and i would be the first to say but it seems to be the way of the world david.

  6. Hi mate i still need to phone you i will try and fit that in soon, must get my processor working properly before next season.

  7. Yes i can see it must be hard some people still think they can run before they can walk. Have you got plenty of good walks where nyou are? have you got many veteran trees?

  8. Yo i think this is the fisrt time i have seen you online

  10. JUST UP the road from me, i presume you are at otley do you know luke taylor?

  11. Contractors haha they cannot afford them. I have the same problem with tubes the estate say burn them the EA say no burning of plastic.on friday afternoon i had to go in our ancient wood as the deer had knocked all the tubes over and made a right mess

  12. Hi nick you have been a bit quiet of late i guess you must be busy. it was really cold today in the wind i was on a shoot, i would rather have been in a wood with a fire.

  13. Not at the moment i have got to change the flails and the roller broke so am having anew one made, get this bomford wanted £600 for a new roller can have one made for well under 200.

  14. Hi ben i got a massey ferguson4225 80 hp with a loaderon it i have just got to get a grab. this is good for me as i have had to hand ball wood into trailors not good. but no crane maybe i will push for it in 2010.

  15. Hi mate where did you get your 3 point linkage crane from and what make was it.

  16. Same here there is no money for woods department and when i do get some halfway through the year it gets shifted to a department that has run out usually the building maintenance department.

  17. Sorry you won't know luke taylor if you are not at otley. where do you go or are you doing your basic chainsaw somewhere like BTS training. yes i am the woodman at Helmingham Hall.

  18. I hope you are alright ? I live at the top of an avenue of veteran oak trees and with this strong wind it roars like a lion. The problem is thin walls and i may loose some, never mind it goes with the job.

  19. Cool landrover how much for a ex military?

  20. Hi steve did you get to stowupland to look at the poplar trees?

  21. Well i have a hedge to plant not much wood going out but plenty coming in for next year. will have a chat sometime when you get a break from being busy. I had a big oak come down last weekend in the wind that was nice work.

  22. Welcome to the woodmans choice.Tell the social group a bit about yourself>

  23. Cool avatar where did you find the deer. When i was choosing my new one i nearly used one of a baby fallow in the grass.

  24. Cool i don't know if i like the idea of being allways fixed to the tractor, much better to be able to drop it off when not needed IMO

  25. Hi ben everytime i hear from you i think your manager and my land agent must have went to the same school LOL. Been clearing around a pond today and the digger came he dug down about 15 feet to clay he said that pond had not been cleaned in 100 years. The agent would not buy me an alaskan saw mill but my bosses wife bought it for me. Not sure what i am doing next i will have to sit in the office and have a think. Hope you and the wife are well?
