  1. :crying:

we had a 12 inch tunisien pto chipper out this week.. i picked up a 12 log about 7 foot long and asked me colluge if it would go through. he said yes so i stuck it through. chipper ground to a halt, flywheel jammed and it bellowed out black smock so quicky shut the tracot of... turns out my colluge forgot to turn the sidelights on the tracor on so the anti stress didnt kick in... :blushing:

    oopps

  2. mmm, looks like their on a winner then, A540 tuntable it is then possibly with the turbo option, anyone think the Turbo is needed?

I saw the new Schliesing 175 at the APF I was a little dissapointed I must say, alot smaller than the Jensen A540 I know, I was hoping it would be a 750kg leader not likely tho, shame always liked Schliesing.

  4. 1200 odd hours on my TW 150 a few plasticky bits broken, in real terms 1 exhaust gone.

Everything else is all could be classed as normal usage, flywheel bearings etc, there is a lot of TW bashing but they make a lot of people a lot of money with very little down time.

I think TW are probley the best out there for a small owner opperator outfit, maybe not so good for a contractor with a fleet. pound for pound cant really beat em. Not for us tho.

  6. The lower roller motor developed a leak, the plastic fuel tank developed huge bulging in the sides resulting in it pressing on the belt pulley, the flywheel bearing on the drive side went after 200hrs, stowage clamp for the chute cracked and fell off, the suction pipe fell off in the hydraulic tank fell off resulting in the pump running dry costing us £200 for a new one. its had numerous problems with the roller spring I think they have sorted that tho. I delt with Greenmech direct and they were first class most of the parts with exception of the Pump and Bearing the gave us F.O.C, Luckily Im able to fit them all myself, did not help with machine downtime tho. I think the Quadchip is a good machine and would recomend it, you get what you pay for like most things, If you want a machine that ticks all boxes you need German and costing 3-4k more.

  8. We've been running Aspen for about 5 years now on about 50 Stihl two strokes the money we have saved over these years purely on the engines not wearing out is unquatifiable, Im a firm beliver that mordern unleaded does not do two stokes any favours in the long term, in 5 years ive not had one of ours Stihls wear out, I love the stuff, There are a few problems in the changeover period but when your over that the stuff is great. To end on I think they are right to slate Unleaded it does cause problems.

  10. Firstly my point on greasing bearings, both machines have way undersize flywheel bearings, the TW being the smallest of the two, If correctly greased which means very infrequentily and a top quality high speed bearing grease (about £20 a tube) you should get 500hrs+ life on these machines bearings, Problems come sooner with owners being too cautious and over greasing, Even GM say every 50hrs to grease the flywheel bearings on the Quadchip even that is way to often, If you got two brand new machines grease one as the owners normally and not the other you'd probley find the one greased would need changing sooner, Both bearings dont need the same amount of grease either, depending on the load. Chipper fly wheel bearings are such high speed high load bearings the advice given is not sufficient, a few small changes can make the world of difference on longevity.

As regards the Greenmech Quadchip ive had no end of problems with mine some serious, but you cant fault the aftersales back up they give its probley the best in the industry. Big thumbs up there. And the quad chip is a big step forward in the 750kg class chipper.

  12. definitley NOT

    Reasons as follows:

Unreliable compared to a good tractor

Cost more than a good tractor

Cost more to repair than a tractor

Parts cost more than most tractor parts

    They go wrong more often.

    A git to fix.

A good mid powered tractor is will do more than a mog can, just not as fast on the road.

The amount of times ive seen small to medium size firms with a mog with a hugh chipper on the front 3 point and a pointlessly small chip box on the back ive lost count, having a chipper on the front and driving round at 40 or so mph is bloody dangerous and shoud be illiegal.

What they are good for diffurcult access off road conditions not much can get near them there.

Most people have them not for that reason but because they seem to think it makes the macho....... stupid machines IMO!!

  13. Sounds like worn rings/piston, engines loose compression when hot so it may have 135psi when cold and will run but when hot it will fall to 115-120psi and cause starting/running issues - worth fitting a new piston and rings if they are worn.

The ring ends will be thinner than the centre of the ring when laid flat on a table viewed from the top - I don't mean the thickness of the ring in the up and down direction -hope that makes sense:confused1:

Not likely to be piston rings IMO and experience, more like a crankcase leak with those syptoms.

  14. County Tree Surgeons have two positions for Arborist Team Leaders.

The ideal candidate will have a current full driving license ( B1 + E an advantage), relevant NPTC qualifications, excellent leadership skills and a minimum of 5 years’ experience within the industry.

In return for hard work and commitment we offer excellent rates of pay, a great working atmosphere and structured development programs.

  15. The worst I have come across recently apart from Vermeer Uk! Is Ford, I needed a replacement Tonrneau cover for our Ford Ranger, Ford wanted £600+vat for one I found the UK manufacture of them who supply Ford, they charged me only £112inc vat! They were not impressed when I told them Ford send it out for over 600 quid!

  16. Thought I would start a new thread as per the title and start it off with the below: -

A 254XP, lean seized - I have cleaned the cylinder of aluminium transfer, lightly abraded the cylinder with wet and dry, fitted a new piston and pressure checked it...all OK. Unusual as it had seized on inlet and outlet piston sides.

Compression measures 145psi but expect this to go up once fueled and run - the cylinder has some light scores but will run and have decent power once done.

IMO replacing a piston after a serious siezer is so risky, just one speck of metal from the old piston and your back to square one. Ive got the Tshirt!!
